If you are here for Skywatch, I am currently running a Valley of Fire series from my February 2009 trip.
The roads are scenic and the rocks are red (duh!), which makes for sensory overload.
The rain was falling when I snapped this. Not much sky here, just gloomy, grey winter sky in Nevada.
SKY WATCH offers a ton of great photos, go and visit.
Amateur photog's online photo cache. All photos are original pics taken by author and her husband. This is not a place to see those awe inspiring Ansel Adams, these are ordinary subjects shot on a whim most of the time.

I like how you framed this shot! Those two boulders make the photo!
Beautiful drive by, I presume? This series are stunning! I'm sure it goes more awesome everyday! Happy weekend!
Wow! This is great! I was out west only once about 4 yrs. ago and just loved it. I'm with you on the rock formations...I just looove them! I think the deep red rocks play well against that neutral sky...very nice! :o)
Wonderful series! Those rock formations are amazing, and I like the contrast in the land and sky!
Beautiful shot. The red rock makes up for the gray sky. This looks like familiar terrain to one from Utah.
Great shots - the gray sky really makes the fire rocks blaze!
The rocks are drop-dead gorgeous and would steal the show from the sky anyway. ;-)
Excellent photo, I'd love to take a drive down that highway, thanks for sharing.
Have a great weekend!

P-TER
That's more red than I've seen anywhere except here. But yours is above ground. We have to dig for ours!
This must be something to see at sunrise/sunset!
Fabulous shot. The gray sky is a good background for the fantastic red boulders.
Fantastic pictures, the red stops you in your tracks. What a foil for the sky.
i have to forget the sky for a while, it's the rock that looks amazing!!!
The name seems to be very appropriate!
The rock stood out from that grey sky. I think they have the perfect color combo this time. :)
the red rock is a great contrast to the sky, great shot.....

Fasinating landscape to me :) Great shot :)
Wow, I've never seen such red rocks. These are beautiful, so scenic.
BTW, thanks for the comment. I'm not just sure what I did coz it didn't appear on my page. :(
even the gloomy sky made these red rocks stand out! nice!
This looks like a surreal place...I like those tufts and clumps of dusty grasses, somehow managing to live in the bare ground. Interesting!
This and the others photos in this series are just amazing. Thank you so much for sharing these. I will be back. Happy Spring!

Superb light effect deepening the red of the sandstone. Lovely scenery and a great place to visit.
This sure does remind me of our trip to Arizona and Sedona last November, Maria! Those rocks really are red!
PC: What woderful scenery to base your SWF photos around. The rocks are so red.
That is a surreal landscape for this Connecticut Yankee!
BEEEE-autiful.
It may "just" be gloomy and gray, but skies have feelings too! ...though judging by the rain on the roads it looks like you've already experienced a bit of a sky cry.
Nice photo, great color to the red rocks.
Beautiful - I love the red rocks of Nevada and Arizona!
The red rock attract my attention, interesting and nice shot.
Have a nice day.
wow, what a view! reminds me of my road trip to hoover dam from vegas years ago! :)
What a natural wonder. I could get lost in a place like that - and enjoy it! Happy SWF!
I figure it has got the name Valley of Fire from that deep color of red from the stones there :P
Loving the contrasts in this picture, looks like a great trip.
This is a magnificent view, I love the colors of the rocks and though is just plain, it still makes a very good photo.

Beautiful. I used to live in Las Vegas. I would go to the Valley of Fire a lot. I hope you hiked around because they have beautiful canyons that are breath taking. I am missing that place.
Beautiful scenery! I admire how you managed to take these photo series on the move. That's difficult. Best wishes :)
That is a great landscape!
Wonderful continuation of the previous sequence of photographs: a splendid image of a scenery in which I'd really like to take a walk!
For a minute I thought these were of the red rocks in Sedona AZ!!

this photo is most impressive, and probably more so in being there and seeing it for the first time... beautiful!
I like the composition you created and your vewpoint for this shot. The car coming through the rocks adds to the interest. Wonderful, rich colors make the picture snap!

Amazing landscape - great colour!
Great photo. This is such an awesome place, would love to see it with my own eyes someday. I could just imagine how amazing those rocks look during sunset.
Thanks for the visit, happy weekend!
A terrific shot.
This red earth reminds me of Madagascar!
This is another one of my favorites, would you mind posting on a map where this is located????
Beautiful photo...good color, good composition...good technical qualities.

The red rocks are amazing. I loved my drive across Nevada many years ago. So bleak in parts and stuff like this in other areas.
Actually, with these sort of rocks, being wet and/or overcast really accentuate the colors. Great job!
Colorado has a lot of this sort of formations scattered around the Front Range, but this place looks huge!
