Sky Watch #47

From last week's skywatch entry (misty Alcatraz and boat) I told you I had my back on the SF waterfront. Now I show you what was the view on the opposite side. Here's the beautiful waterfront view. Coit Tower is partly hidden, Transamerica Pyramid stands tall and proud, and Ghirardelli Square takes its sweet position on the right side of this image, while the nary a cloud in the blue sky. Although you can probably see a hint of the fog that was going to blanket all this beauty in a short hour or so. Shot on Memorial Day 2009 between 4 to 5 pm, I think :)

I'm testing if a larger image is better suited to my taste for this blog. What do you think?

  6. Oh, thanks for your kind words. We had so much fun and we clocked 1000 miles for that 5 day trip. We covered most of the lakes, and I still have some adventures that have not been posted, photos to last me for another month of SWF of WW of MWT. It was a month long planning.

  9. Thanks for showing the opposite view - makes you want to sail right in there! Last week's was my favorite though.

I like larger images but not if you have to scroll to see it all as I had to. I like the picture to just pop out at me at one glance. Just my thoughts. (I have a 17in screen.)

  18. I LOVE San Francisco! I would love to get there more often. I only live 1-1/2 hours and a BART ride away but I don't get there near as much as I want to. This is a lovely photo (and very sweet narative as well) of 'the city.' I recently re-conneted with an old friend who also loves the city and we promised each other we would go soon. I can't wait!
Thanks for sharing our wonderful photo. BTW- how did you get it so large?

  19. The SF sky line is noteworthy, but the ship wins hands down with me.

Regarding the width of the pictures: I'm all for as large pictures as possible. I feel that it is up to the author to present the photos in way that brings the message across immediately. I (and most people with me) never press for a larger version.

I use a width of 800px as standard, with an occasional 900px (today). It will depend on your template.

  29. It's in the ordinary things we see everyday and we live everyday that deem AWE INSPIRING Madam. The hearts that freely give, the beautiful mind that think pleasant thoughts to people they care and love, a kind smile that you cause people's life to light and a comforting, assuring words you say to those who are sad and lonely and forlorn.

All these simple ordinary qualities that your pictures convey. Now these come from my heart and with sincerity.

Thanks for the visit. As always, you cheer my spirit.

  45. The larger size works well with this long thin image (and I do like long thin images when that's what's called for). I would so love to see San Francisco. With last week's Alcatraz and this week's waterfront I'm starting to build up a picture. Now I need the Golden gate bridge and some cable cars, please!

  55. Fantastic shot. What a terrific skyline! I like the panorama of this. I think really large shots can sometimes be overwhelming. It really works with this one. I think the size of the one below is perfect for that one. Maybe it just depends on the shots.

  56. I vote for large! This is so fun to see. I lived in SF for many years, and then across the bay in Berkeley for many more. I remember my daughter's elementary school class working for the day on the Balcutha. And my husband's firm remodeled the penthouse in that tallest building on Russian Hill (for the Swig/Mallard's), and I could see my house in Berkeley from their floor to ceiling windows at the party the family threw when the job was finished. You've captured the skyline from a very wonderful perspective, with that bit of mist in the air.
