Squeezing In Madrid

And so we found ourselves landing in rainy Madrid. We planned our day in Madrid from sunny Barcelona and so the rain and teeth-chattering cold and chilly breeze were a factor we didn't even put into the equation. All we were worried about before were if we could squeeze in enough sightseeing and eating. Now this is a different setting altogether.

Our hotel was near the airport area. Our decision for choosing this hotel was based on price, proximity to the airport, and availability of free shuttle to airport. BUT it was a ways away from the city center. All the odds were stacked against us it seemed.

With the aid of the hotel front desk clerk, we found the subway station, which was a 20-minute walk from the hotel. We lost time by getting confused which platform to go to, how to get the tickets, or which station to alight so we could catch the hop on hop off bus.

Would you believe we managed to flag the hop on hop off bus? We only waited what seemed like a good hour for it. Still the better part of the afternoon was almost gone. And the rain has been on and off the whole time.

It felt like a private tour bus for us. For most of the ride, we were the only two people in the bus getting the tour. It must be the rain or the lateness in the day, but we managed to snap a few shots that I wanted to show you. Remember I only have a light jacket with me, insufficient to shield me from cold and rain.

The city is full of architectural delights.

  1. Madrid is where I would go next in Spain, Maria, after seeing Barcelona 3 times. You have whetted my appetite because architecture amazes me everywhere I go here in Europe!

  7. Any poncho given by the tour bus? I've seen Grayline New York's hop on hop off buses filled with poncho-clad tourists really determined on sightseeing.

  10. Took me some time to go through all the posts I missed again. Sorry for the lack of visits, but I've been so swamped with work the past three weeks. Didn't even realize that you'd moved on from Malta to Madrid. And now you're done! (I like Amsterdam's airport seats. Very elegant, modern lines.)

Had fun touring Madrid through your eyes again. The ornately decorated architecture is just totally amazing. Of course, I wish I could taste all the food that you posted and wrote about!!! Somehow though, I think I prefer Malta to visit if I had to choose between the two.

    Have a great weekend!
