Parade
The San Francisco Giants celebrated their first World Series crown by holding parade on Market Street. Many people, including the husband and I, took a day off to join the rest of the fandom in the street celebration.
Since this is a major event, everyone left their cars home and took BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit)our local subway system. However, a huge number of people came down at the stations all at once. Automated ticket machines, four in the Walnut Creek station could only handle so much. The lines were long, our wait to purchase tickets was about 40 minutes. Some other stations reported a wait as long as 2.5 hours.
We got off Powell Street and was greeted by beautiful sun. It was a lovely 80 degrees that day.
Enough elbow room for well, elbow.
Every conceivable space was taken. It's grab your own tree. People were on top of everything, trees, poles, etc.
CAL opened the parade with some wonderful tunes.
The players rode in trolleys. Here's Aubrey Huff (first base) and his pal Pat Burrell (outfield) sharing the trolley and some drinks.
The 21-year-old rookie LHP Madison Bumgarner (MadBum) waves to the crowd.
Giants manager, Bruce Bochy, holds the prize proudly.
Lou Seal, the Giants mascot was ever present.
The parade was a peaceful one. I did not see nor heard anything untoward that happened.
Needless to say this is a big deal for us Giants fans and Bay Area denizens. Personally, I have not come down from the high yet.
This is my entry for this week's MY WORLD.

wow never seen that kind of crowd here unless there is a rally (lol)
ReplyDeleteYou can totally eat this victory up, Maria. You deserve it! Did I tell you Dutchbaby and I had a little wager going on when Giants were playing the Braves? I ended up sending her some Sinterklaas chocolate letters. :D
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, i can feel the excitement! glad to hear that the victory parade was peaceful. you took great photos with just an elbow room! did your husband carry you on his shoulders? LOL
ReplyDeleteYay....celebration time! :D
ReplyDeleteYou did not get a picture of Tim Lincecum, the half-Pinoy pitcher?
ReplyDeleteAny excuse for a party is a good one. This seems to be an exceptional case :-) Nothing like a cup to let supporters feel a lot better.
ReplyDelete40 minutes to buy a BART ticket isn't so bad. The Giants had to wait 50+ years to get another title. ;)
ReplyDeletedid you also grab a tree?...lol. great shots and everyone seems happy :)
ReplyDeletefor someone who's ignorant about Giants, this post surely interesting. ^0^
ReplyDeletethe event looks very festive, glad you had a blast.
@ GINNIE - believe it or not, you were in my thoughts the entire time the Giants were going up against the Braves.
ReplyDelete@ PING-I - you are absolutely right about that.
@ BERTN - Lincecum was facing the other side of the street, so I didn't really get a shot of him.
@ LUNA - am too heavy for my husband :)
Congratulations! Wow, that's a huge celebration and you captured it so well. Fun shots.
ReplyDeletevery much anticipated, ansaya!
ReplyDeleterare na peaceful yung ganyan kacrowded na parade dito sa pinas.. hehe
I'm glad San Francisco was able to celebrate their win without any violence or problems. It looks as if everyone had a wonderful time.
ReplyDeletewow!!! just wow on the number of people. saw this on the news. didn't realize how big that crowd is.
ReplyDeleteCrowded but a peaceful celebration, and you are in the front line to take these close ups!
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful when a whole city feels so good about themselves.
ReplyDeleteUnited people!
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Casa, Morocco!
Oh, I'm so glad you posted these photos. Believe me, my heart was in San Francisco. I can't tell you how happy I am about the World Series this year. Not quite as happy as when Toronto won two in a row, but almost.

My husband was also thrilled to see them win. He would be the one climbing the tree :)
ReplyDeleteSuch excitement and enthusiasm … it’s great to win and have something positive to celebrate. Thanks for sharing the happy moments that seem worth the long lines and waits. :)

Everyone I know, it seems, was so happy with the Giants win! Look at ALL those people who support them...no wonder they did such a great job!
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots of celebration. It is nice to celebrate with everyone.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, I'm glad SF won it. Nice shots, although the only time I can stand to be in a crowd like that is at a concert.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting parade. There's a whole lot of people.
ReplyDeleteSo many people! What a great parade. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a joyous event!!
ReplyDeleteMy husband's a baseball fan so I got my news from him. So glad for you guys! Must have been an awesome feeling.
ReplyDeleteHow am I? Busier than ever. November & December are our craziest months at work because of the grand alumni homecoming and all other events which lead up to it. All great fun, of course, but so many things to take care of. I can't blog hop as much as I want to and need to catch up on all my favorite blogs! Including yours! Hope you're doing fine too.
The photo of the top is really amazing, a panoramic view from the station. For a magazine. You really enjoyed the parade.

Interesting!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations once again to SF and the Giants. I can feel the happiness in all your photos. My friends are such Giant's fans and I've been following the wins on facebook -- blow by blow. Also saw their photos of the parade. Some took the BART, and some took the train... equally as crowded.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, my grandparents used to own a house in Walnut Creek and I remember taking the BART to SF when I was young. Great memories... :-)
Fantastic perspective in the top shot!
ReplyDeleteYou photographed the parade so well. I really enjoy this very beautiful sequence of pictures!
ReplyDeleteWasn't that a wonderful day?!!! It truly couldn't have been better with everyone being so happy, the weather was perfect, it was San Francisco at it's best! I love all your photos, great shots, wonderful perspective!
ReplyDeleteAwesome that you made it out there. My son went. He skipped the long lines at bart by buying a ticket from a scalper! He had a blast. Your photos convey a lot of energy!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! I wish I would have been able to make it out there!
ReplyDeleteEverybody certainly was in celebration mode. Didn't you get crushed? Love the spirit though.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the weekend - whatever the weather!
