Hearst Castle - A Photographic Tour Part 1

IMG_5390
One needs to take a shuttle bus to get to Hearst Castle. It is after all still 5 miles from the Visitor Center. The drive offers recorded descriptions of the spots we are passing by. The drive is uphill as the castle is 1600 feet on the Santa Lucia Range and has a spectacular view of the ocean.

There's our bus.
The first spot we were taken when we were dropped off at the Castle was the Neptune Pool, the outdoor pool, measures 104 x 58 feet and is highlighted by the facade of an ancient Roman temple that was purchased and imported to California.

And up these stairs we go to the next part of the tour. Hope you enjoyed the tour so far. My information retention is pretty lousy, but whatever was said in the tour, I'm sure Wikipedia has it.

This is my entry for this week's MY WORLD #119.

TO BE CONTINUED...............

The road to the castle is refreshing and I know that this is just a slice of the cake, but the outdoor pool alone will wow any visitor. I'm excited to see more photos in the next post.

Can you imagine an outdoor pool like that?????? And as I recall, there's also one indoors, yes?!!! Funny, but I didn't remember that drive up. As you can see, my retention is very bad...but it WAS from 40 years ago!

my fave part inside apart from the pool, was the church and inside the castle where they have that huge, long dining hall. ( i think ), it was all fast, fast when we were there.
beautiful fotos, hope to see more. ^0^

The pool was my favorite part of the whole tour in early 1989, but I sure didn't take photos like these. Wonderful!

Beautiful photos. I toured it about 25 years ago. I love reading about how Hearst entertained people way back when he owned it.
