Super Shots

I was hopping from one travel blog to another in search of inspiration on where to go to next, something like that, when all of a sudden I chanced upon this one blog - cannot remember which one now - that was playing this meme called Super Shots from this blog. The game is old, had been initiated in January of this year. I went around some more to see what other players posted before I was convinced to try my hand at it. I surely have enough photos to play with. I won't be going to the site to tell them I played too, it's an old game anyway. And so I'll just do numbers 1 and 2.

Here are the rules:

1. Choose 7 of your own photos, one for each of the following categories:

A photo that…takes my breath away
A photo that…makes me laugh or smile
A photo that…makes me dream
A photo that…makes me think
A photo that…makes my mouth water
A photo that…tells a story
A photo that…I am most proud of (aka my worthy of National Geographic shot)

2. Write a short description for each image.
3. Write somewhere in your blog post: ‘I am taking part in HostelBookers 7 Super Shots‘.
4. Tell us you have participated and tweet the hashtag #7SuperShots
5. Nominate 5 other bloggers by including a link to their blog in your post.

THAT TAKES MY BREATH AWAY

Winter in Grand Canyon
The first time we went to Grand Canyon was in 2005 or 2006. My husband and I both wept at the first sight of the grand vista upon us. This image is taken in February 2009 on our second visit. It still took my breath away. I know now how true what they say, love is lovelier the second time around.

THAT MAKES ME LAUGH OR SMILE

IMG_0302
From our camping trip in Eastern California in July 2007. I cannot help but smile, even laugh somedays, whenever I see this image. The boy btw on this image has just graduated from elementary and is ready for junior high next fall. Time flies, doesn't it. You ask why this image makes me smile or laugh? It's because while the man is teaching the boy how to properly manipulate the fishing rod, it appears from this picture that the boy is actually mouthing off instructions to the man instead of the other way around. This is one of my personal favorite snapshots.

THAT MAKES ME DREAM

IMG_0150
I didn't dream of Paris. It wasn't in any of my list. But when I was there something happened to me, especially when I look at this image of the Eiffel Tower taken November 2009. I realized that if I was able to see Eiffel Tower without really trying or dreaming, then I can hope to see the places I truly want to see. Paris made me dream travel dreams.

THAT MAKES ME THINK
El Castillo
Seeing this Chichen Itza image from June 2010 makes me think how very fascinating is the culture of the Mayans. Do you think just like many that the reason behind the Mayan calendar ending in December 2012 is that they simply got tired of doing it? ***wink***wink***

THAT MAKES MY MOUTH WATER
Gambas
No other dish can evoke fond happy memories and satisfaction than this simple gambas dish that I had in one of the many restaurants/tapas bar lining the length of Las Ramblas in Barcelona. It's a simple sauteed shrimp with olive oil and lemon, but the freshness of the shrimps made the dish really sweet and unforgettable, makes my mouth water right now. Photo taken November 2009.

THAT TELLS A STORY
Sunset Glow Over Golden Gate From Marine Headlands
This image is taken November 2008. I don't know if I'm within the boundaries of the rules for THAT TELLS A STORY section, but the Golden Gate Bridge tells a story. It will tell you the many people that come to see her, full of marvel at her beauty and elegant lines. On the other hand, she will also lament at the many others who continue to see her as the last resort, the only way out of their problems, the way to end their miseries. She has seen many suicides and attempts, she cries at each one of them.

THAT I AM MOST PROUD OF (aka worthy of National Geographic shot)

Run
This last category is tough. Obviously I never had any of my photos grace the pages of Nat Geo so I would never know if this is Nat Geo worthy. Personally I think it is. It tells of the surfing culture of California. The waters in Northern California are freezing, even in the summertime, and yet surfers continue to enjoy the waves with the help of the wet suit. I really like this picture a lot, I thought it turned out pretty well for a point and shoot camera. This was taken in November 2008, the day after Thanksgiving.

So whaddya think? Will you dig into your archives and play along? Let me know.
