The Time I Finally Got To Stay in a Victorian Room

My fascination with Victorian architecture began the first time my brother took me for a drive in San Francisco. This fascination stayed with me from that moment on, but somehow has deepened in the last couple of years. I know that I cannot afford to have my own Victorian house; but I can do the next best thing....to stay in a Victorian bed and breakfast. Well that didn't happen. Until last May when we stayed in Mendocino Hotel for our anniversary trip.

From the first visit to this beautiful coastal town, it had become a goal of mine to stay in Mendocino Hotel, except that it's beyond my price range.

Thus when Travelzoo featured a deal on a 2-night stay in Mendocino Hotel, I immediately hit BUY on the screen and started planning for an anniversary get-away. This post however is only focusing on the hotel.

I was so psyched to stay in the hotel, because aside from it's historic past, it's also located centrally in the main street facing the water. However, the voucher was for a stay in the garden suites. I didn't even know they have garden suites. They have about 3 houses I believe and each one has about 4 suites. The structure isn't exactly what I'd imagine a Victorian house would be like.

But the interior is pure Victorian.

The sitting area is simple.

A bottle of wine and a cheese plate came with the room

It was a very cozy room. After the long drive from the East Bay, it was nice to rest in a warm cozy room for the night.

  10. That house is so ramantic, perfect for an annivesary get away. I too prefer to stay in quaint bed and breakfast when traveling... it just brings out the essence and culture more than staying in hotel buidlings. Happy Holidays!

  13. The building in the top picture reminds me of the typical cowboy town hotel in see in movies. Is that an American Victorian architectural style?

I like the cozy looking interiors.

  17. Hello Maria, Merry Christmas. Where will your feet be this time? I haven't heard of this tunnel yet, but it's lovely. I wish you have the shot just before the entrance, wonder how it looks. What is the length of the tunnel?

  18. Such wonderful treat for your anniversary. What are the odds of finding nice deal for your dream hotel for such special occasion? You were blessed. The hotel is lovely indeed. I love that old phone; certainly added to the charm of the room. I can just guess that there were a lot of wonderful things to see and do around the area and that you enjoyed yourself.
