Last summer's road trip

It's raining here in California right now. We are getting much needed rain, after a dry winter, although according to those who know we need around 4 or 5 more of this so we're still a long way from coming out of the drought. On this stormy Saturday I am reminded of our summer road trip and camping to Camp 4 1/5 in the Sierra Nevada. Join me as I take you on a ride to the cabin.

It's a long drive - around 5 hours from the East Bay where we live. We hit the road after 9:00 am.

An hour and a half later we reached Altamont Pass and the wind turbines. Each time I drive past the windmills I feel a little tug in my heart, because I know once I pass this area I'm outside of the "bay area".

From here it's mostly freeway scenery and although pretty little orchards and open spaces fly past my window I opted to enjoy with my eyes and not the lens.

We have been driving a long time when we reached this lake, I believe is Pine Flat Lake one of the tributaries of Kings River, where stopped for a brief group picture break.

Then we were nearing our destination, Cabin 4 1/2.

It's a long drive through the mountains about an hour's drive. Even for us who've been there before, you'd ask if you are in the right track. We are. After all there's no other way to go but back out, but we still, well I still panicked whether we missed a turn somewhere (although I know we didn't because there was no turn).

At the end of the long road, the road splits. That's when you will see the I FORGOT STORE, so named because well every camper forgets something and this is the last chance you have to get that something you forgot. The store is also a good landmark because when you see the store you know you went a few yards too far. Go back a bit and take the road to the left as opposed to going straight (to the I Forgot Store).

Ah, we are finally just a mile away to the cabin and a couple of days of seclusion from city living.

Can you tell that I love drive by shooting and photographing roads and streets?

  8. Oh, yes, Maria, and I love your drive-by shooting. I can tell how dry it was. Hopefully you'll keep getting more rain, which you so desperately need. We don't want wide-spread wild fires there this year!

  13. Whoever thought of that store name is very creative and resourceful! What a name! I actually want to use that, but i can't think of a place here to put that store. Oh i had an idea, near our Mt Gulugod Baboy!
