Seeing Orange

The very dry, pleasant and unseasonably warm winter we had around these parts did not only threaten drought, it also made us a bit dispassionate about the arrival of spring. Okay, let me make that statement a personal one. I was too spoiled of the mild winter we had that mimicked spring that the excitement towards the arrival of spring was tempered.

That was until this past weekend when I drove by a hillside covered with the state flower. I didn't have a camera then, although my smart phone takes good photos I decided to wait until I can bring the hubs here. This is the same hillside in the neighborhood where I lived for years before moving to where I live now so I know that this hill has not seen any spring blooms like it has this year.

On Sunday I planned on surprising the hubby by showing him the hill near our old home, but he said he's going to show me something first. A week ago he chaperoned friends' kids on a play date in neighborhood playground, and near there was this empty lot filled with golden poppy. I swear there is a proliferation of poppies this year. I've never seen too much poppies.

I don't mind an empty lot for a neighbor if the lot is filled with flowers.

Fully satisfied with our little photo shoot, we drove towards home and along the way we passed by a house with dogwood tree on its yard that is blooming. We stopped the car and took some pictures.

Last Sunday was a perfect spring day with spring flowers blanketing the ground and flowering trees blooming while the entire day the sky was a cloudless blue. Perfect day. Perfect skywatching day.

  5. Beautiful captures - love the first one! Am proud to live in California. Several years ago we went about 2 hrs. NE from L.A. to see the poppies. The orange was almost overwhelming!

Do you know where they have sites with the red poppies? Asking, because I want to make a painting of those.

  14. I have always loved the California poppy from my 12 years there, Maria. But ORANGE!!! That's the frosting on the cake. And now that I have seen your dogwood tree, I'm homesick for the dogwoods we had on our property in Atlanta all those years. I miss them!
