Bolinas: Crab Season

So last Sunday we took a drive out to the North Bay and stopped at different points along the way. One of the stops was Bolinas. It was a lovely sunny day, thus a day in the beach was in order. Except that when we got there, the beach was nearly empty. There were a few people walking up and down the pebbly beach, a couple of surfers about to call it a day and there wasn't too much beach activity to photograph until I saw the gulls having the time of their life feeding. It was crab season in the low-tide beach and how lucky are these birds for their gourmet treats.

Lucky birds, they don't need to shell out $6.99/lb for crab supper. I was surprised to find a lot of crabs that washed up on the shore.

  1. A feastive time for the birds.
Wonder how the crabs die. Is it due to the low tide? But crabs are amphibians right?
