Capitola: Artistic Tiles

I was very surprised to discover the tiles that line the one side of the sea wall on our last stop over at Capitola for sunset viewing. How on earth did I miss these on previous visits? Apparently these tiles were here since 2008. I googled these tiles the moment I got home that night and did not find any substantial write up on them, and recently I searched on the interweb again for any information on them as a backgrounder for this post and luckily I found an old article here that talked about these beautifully artistic and quite personal tile art.

Go ahead read the article here and I'll show you a few of the tiles I captured. Needless to say that being a cat person I sought for any appearance of cat in the lot.

I admire it when they add some sort of art installation in a public place, especially if they offer the public the chance to participate.

This is MY WORLD this week.

  2. That is really cool! I bet the artists must be proud to have their tiles displayed. Such a nice idea to have the community involved in public art. It's so Capitola.

  8. Wonderful idea. Those are well done, eye-catching tiles. If only they were installed in a higher wall, where it was installed now will definitely go unnoticed unless one sits on the benches.

  10. At least there they are made on tiles that last. Here they used paints, which look quite dirty through time most specially if the vandals put big bad letters and words on them!
