Valley of Fire: A Colorful Diversion

LAS VEGAS 2014 1035
Still driving around the park, but pretty much done with sightseeing and was on the way out when we spotted this van parked roadside. This side of the road didn't look very promising for sightseeing, so we were curious why a photography school van was parked here. Surely there must be something very interesting in this part for them to stop here. So we did too.

What we found was what appeared to be a dead/dried up river bed. We did not see the people who owned the van, but we were pretty much occupied by the river bed itself.

The river twists and turns and you can see the impressions left by the water level on the sandstones.

We couldn't follow the rest of the dry river because of the lateness of the hour and when we reached this part, we decided to go back to the car because the sun would be out very soon.

  1. Beautiful! It looks like even if there is a sudden flash flood, there are plenty of safe places to go to in a jiffy.

  9. what a great find.
these photos looked like cut outs from a calendar, erm, could be May or October edition.

    You labeled them under Nevada.
    No wonder they look familiar...
That's how I remembered our last trip as well, something about Red rocks but not sure exactly where.
I know it was a drive by then, and the bus driver was kind enough to squeeze in a few minutes for some souvenir shots.

  17. Those are real incredible landscapes, i wonder how many years they have been bombarded by the elements, to polish those surfaces to those amazing finish. I love most your composition in that number 5 photo, a more close-up shot! But i love the name of the school, haha.

  21. I'm loving this series .... honestly had no idea there was this much beauty in Nevada. I've always thought of it as well ... kind of a wasteland.

  22. Me again ... you asked (in a comment on FullTime-Life) whether we did any bird-watching on our Alaska trip; I've posted a few birds and will have a few more over the next while. We were't specifically bird-watching though; the ones I have were just what happened to show up. Thanks for your visit!!
