Valley of Fire: A Colorful Diversion
Still driving around the park, but pretty much done with sightseeing and was on the way out when we spotted this van parked roadside. This side of the road didn't look very promising for sightseeing, so we were curious why a photography school van was parked here. Surely there must be something very interesting in this part for them to stop here. So we did too.
What we found was what appeared to be a dead/dried up river bed. We did not see the people who owned the van, but we were pretty much occupied by the river bed itself.
The river twists and turns and you can see the impressions left by the water level on the sandstones.
We couldn't follow the rest of the dry river because of the lateness of the hour and when we reached this part, we decided to go back to the car because the sun would be out very soon.
This is MY WORLD for this week.
Beautiful! It looks like even if there is a sudden flash flood, there are plenty of safe places to go to in a jiffy.
ReplyDeleteThis area is stunning, I would love to explore and photograph this one day. Thanks for sharing it!

ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome landscape - you can see how the water has shaped it.
ReplyDeleteThat scenery is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThe rocks are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place. I would love to see it for myself and touch those rainbow coloured sandstone rocks.
ReplyDeletewhat a great find.
ReplyDeletethese photos looked like cut outs from a calendar, erm, could be May or October edition.
You labeled them under Nevada.
No wonder they look familiar...
That's how I remembered our last trip as well, something about Red rocks but not sure exactly where.
I know it was a drive by then, and the bus driver was kind enough to squeeze in a few minutes for some souvenir shots.
I like your exploration of the dry river bed. You got some excellent shots of the colors and the erosion effects on the rocky river bed.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a really lovely riverbed! Reminds me of the Wave Canyon in Arizona.
ReplyDeleteWow! These are gorgeous shots of an amazing landscape. So lucky that you saw the van and stayed to explore a little more!
ReplyDeleteThese landscapes are mind blowing.
ReplyDeleteAmazing landscapes. This exploration is every bit worth.
ReplyDeleteWOWSER! Aren't you/we glad you stopped. That must have been a thrill to see, Maria.
ReplyDeleteWOW! Just AMAZING! It's so incredibly beautiful, it looks like a painting where the artist was having a ball with color. I am so glad you stopped.
ReplyDeleteThose are real incredible landscapes, i wonder how many years they have been bombarded by the elements, to polish those surfaces to those amazing finish. I love most your composition in that number 5 photo, a more close-up shot! But i love the name of the school, haha.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous place to take photos! I would LOVE to visit there!
ReplyDeleteGolly! My kind of place. And it's your world for ONE WEEK! Wow.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving this series .... honestly had no idea there was this much beauty in Nevada. I've always thought of it as well ... kind of a wasteland.
ReplyDeleteMe again ... you asked (in a comment on FullTime-Life) whether we did any bird-watching on our Alaska trip; I've posted a few birds and will have a few more over the next while. We were't specifically bird-watching though; the ones I have were just what happened to show up. Thanks for your visit!!
