Favorite Drive

I believe many of us are creatures of habit. We keep coming back to a favorite restaurant, vacation destination, or park. In our case, we have a favorite short drive. It has become our tradition to take the drive in the back roads of Napa Valley in the winter time. Rarely over the years, we would take the drive a second time in the year during summer time. But not always. Winter is a special time in the back roads when the fog shroud the rolling hills making an eerie atmosphere of the oak trees dripping in Spanish moss. I love the sight of it.

January 19 this year was when we took the drive. The reason for this was the day before was exceptionally foggy. We were hoping the same conditions for the drive the next day, except that overnight the fog lifted completely and the blue sky emerged and the sun overcompensated the region with sunshine it was lacking for a few days prior.

Hey, I like sunny blue skies as well, so I wasn't completely down. Let me show you what we see as we take our yearly therapeutic drive in the back roads of Napa Valley.

  1. Whatever your photos are, i always appreciate them, you always have a fan in me. I would like to be in a car like you when going places, because when in NZ or Oz i would have taken lots of wonderful photos along the way, but of course i can't tell the tourist bus driver to stop! We were on what the tourist bus driver said a place after the divide, and the vegetation suddenly changed to a scary one somewhat like your mossy trees. The area however is so thick in vegetation unlike that in your photo

  8. Wonderful shots. In the first shot, the rock looks like a sideways pose of a face.

  15. We were in Napa on 1/19 too! But only for dinner and it was after dark so no photos. We dont get to Napa much. We've never gone intentionally just for a day of exploring. What a shame.
