Sunday Walk

Today, Sunday, it's a tv holiday here in the United States. I'm staying home doing chores and tuned in to Hallmark's Kitten Bowl II. Last Sunday we went for a walk. It was a lovely day with mild January temps and pretty blue skies. The destination for our walk, okay photo walk was Berkeley's Tilden Park. But the traffic was heavy so we decided not to go there. Since we needed to gas up at Costco too, we decided that why not walk in the East Bay Trail of Point Isabel Park. Point Isabel Park is a dog park, but adjacent to it is a marsh with good viewing of wetland birds.

I had taken this walking trail before but I don't remember seeing many birds here, only now. Hence I was surprise there is a marshland/mudflats here. With the help of Mr. Wikipedia I found out this information about it:

Hoffman Marsh is a wetlands on San Francisco Bay in Richmond, California. The marsh has been protected within Eastshore State Park, and adjacent to Point Isabel Regional Shoreline. The marsh is an important nesting ground for wildfowl and stopping ground on the Pacific Flyway, as it is one of only a handful of undestroyed wetlands in the Bay Area. It borders Point Isabel Regional Shoreline and Interstate 80.

Hoffman Marsh is the delta for the mouth of Fluvius Innominatus creek into the Hoffman Channel, which lead to San Francisco Bay.[1] The channel is part of Point Isabel Regional Shoreline, the "largest dog park in the United States", and serves as a swimming area for the animals. Hoffman Channel is adjacent to Point Isabel promontory, and was formerly a sandy beach on its south shore.

Since we went there to photograph and walk, we did a lot of both.

Brave kitty or stupid kitty in dog park. On the other hand, there's plenty of birdies on this side of the trail.

  14. I'm glad the remaining wetlands is being protected. Man's seeming quest for asphalting every last foot of earth in the states is hard to resist.
