Port of Call: Santorini (Are you kidding me?) Part 1

On Day 4 of a 7-day cruise, the main attraction happened. It was Santorini day. I feel like I can speak for everyone in the cruise here, we were all excited. The alloted time for Santorini was from 1:30 to about 10:00 pm. As soon as I saw the time, I knew why we were arriving so late and leaving late - it was to give us time to see the most heralded sunset of Santorini.

We were tendering in Santorini. Tendering is when a ship is unable to dock, guests are taken ashore on smaller boats called tenders. And while we were waiting for the tenders we were up in the deck looking out across the waters to whitewashed houses clinging precariously at the edge of the cliffs.

See the zigzag road going up the cliff? That's the donkey trail, one way of reaching Fira, and next to it is the cable car if you don't care for walking all those steps.

A ticket is required to get to the tenders. These are free.

On the ride to the port, we were shooting our hearts out. I was screaming inside!

Once we reached port, we bought tickets for the ferry to take us to Oia. It was agreed upon that we would spend the first half in Oia, then take the bus (which is included in the ferry fare) to Fira which we would explore before going back to the boat. Fira is closer to the ship so it made sense.

  14. Santorini is dreamy - we wanted to go there so badly when we were staying in Athens, but there was a big storm that day, so we went to another island on a different day. My curious question is how the mood of the Greek are, now they voted to go outside the European Union?
