A Potpourri of Sky

As I mentioned in earlier post, I traveled during the Holidays in Asia to be with the in-laws. While my output at photography was not prolific, I managed to capture a variety of sky shots. This will serve as a preview for future posts.

Our first stopover was in Taipei where we spent roughly 36 hours. I find the city very clean, safe, and for lack of better word - user-friendly to travelers. Great food and friendly locals.

In Bangladesh, we traveled by train for 11 hours to reach the city of Khulna, in the western part of the country, near India. Khulna was our embarkation port for a cruise to Sundarbans National Park. This sunset shot was taken from a moving train.

We awoke on the last day of the cruise to Sundarbans in heavy fog. Eventually it slowly lifted, but the early morning tranquility as we slowly meandered the river while the entire place was blanketed in heavy fog was a real treat.

Before going back home, we swung by nearby Bali for some R&R where we went temple hopping and sightseeing.

Bali was HOT in January and the locals were complaining of lack of rain due to climate change, but on that one particular day, there was some drizzle.

  5. Hi Maria (again). You asked about the beak on the Black Skimmers I showed on my blog. You are right, their lower beak is longer: My bird guide says the bird uses its long lower mandible (beak) to cut through the water and scoop fish. It is the only bird that has a longer lower beak than upper.

  17. I've decided that next to Astrid and me, you and hubby do the most traveling of anyone I know! I love it...seeing things for the first time through your eyes. Most are places we will never see, mainly because we still have too much of Europe to see, where our hearts are. It's strange, isn't it...how we are drawn to different places for all kinds of reasons. It's what makes the world go 'round! Thanks for sharing. One day we may actually get you to the Netherlands. :)

  20. I visited Taipei about 9 years back and found it hard going if one can't speak Mandarin. Sounds like things are different now. You've encouraged me to consider returning there... :)
