Xcaret Photos 7
Xcaret series here.
Let me show you some more shots from Xcaret. It's a pretty big place so there's plenty to do and even more to photograph, so I went crazy and shoot at everything.
UNDERGROUND RIVERS
One of the attractions/activities that I regret not being able to do/participate is the Underground Rivers, because I cannot swim. The Underground Rivers are part of a natural network of channels which circulate under the Yucatan Peninsula. This activity is included in the price of admission. It is where you float along the river as it meanders across the park.
The river and swimmers passes through the Aviary.
Near the butterfly area.
It's better to do this later in the day so you can avoid the excessive heat.
River meanders past the replica Mayan village.
Must be so much fun.
THE PARADISE RIVER
A different option to enjoy one of the Underground Rivers without getting wet is a cruise at Paradise River. Here you can admire unique scenery from the comfort of a raft. Go through canals of clear water surrounded by the jungle, and get excited with the surprises along the way: blue crabs, iguanas, peccaries and more. Enjoy the flora and fauna of the Riviera Maya on this peaceful tour. This is my kind of activity.
ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI CHAPEL
Located at the highest point of the park with views of the Caribbean Ocean, St. Francis of Assisi chapel integrates elements of Mayan architecture with a bell tower and a spectacular native tree at the entrance of the church. Local materials were used with the cross carved with the image of Christ is sapodilla, the altar is made of limestone, and the pews are made of wood from the region.
It is just a perfect spot to have a little peace and quiet and at the same time catch your breath. Masses are offfered on Sundays and you can get married here.
Looking towards the altar.
The entrance.
The sign
The jailhouse is next to the church.
THE SPA
Doesn't this appear to be such a luxury? What a spot to get a massage, isn't it?
MISCELLANEOUS
Nice bathroom.
One of the locals watching the crazy tourists.
Interior mural in one of the houses that offer workshops in local produce.
Scattered throughout the park are photo spots, this has got to be the best one. It certainly caught my attention, thus I had to take a souvenir shot here.

Hello, these are gorgeous photos and a wonderful place to visit. Happy Thursday, enjoy your day and the weekend ahead!
ReplyDeleteLove that last shot! What a fun place.
ReplyDeleteSo, did it make you want to learn to swim??? At least by NOT swimming, you got to take all those great images. I can imagine what a memorable place this is...as long as it isn't too hot (which I don't handle well, I'm afraid). At least the images look "cool!" :)
ReplyDeleteVery nice post, great shots!
