Morocco: Rissani, part 2

The tour next moved to a visit to a small souk in town, which was not busy at all. That was a surprise to me since I thought all souks are packed with shoppers and you have to watch your bag at all times. Apparently here that wasn't the case. Perhaps because we were in a small town and the visitors come here for a desert adventure and not visiting the marketplace.

Many of the stalls were closed. The ones open were not getting any business at all. Our guide walked us through the small souk and took us to the stall that sold dates. He talked about the different types of dates and which ones were pricey.

In the souk, we were able to buy the cloth that they use to cover the face when in the desert. We took this opportunity to learn how to put it on the right way.

THE KSAR

From the souk, we were dropped off a ksar. A ksar is a fortified city and this one dated back to the 18th century. A few people still live in the ksar and we were able to visit one of the houses as we walked through. It was midday and the sun was incredibly very hot.
