Morocco: Essaouira For A Day

Upon sight of the coastal town of Essaouira from the road, we got really excited. It was one picturesque sight. The day was awash with sunshine, a tad hot when spending extended time under the sun, but over all a pleasant day for exploring the medina. We didn't have any itinerary at all, so when the driver parked at the main lot near the square, we knew we just had to walk around the medina and hopefully explore the ramparts.

The maze like alleys of the medina are filled with shops selling so many colorful tapestries, wood carvings, art, weaves, and a whole lot more. We intended to see the ramparts and probably take photos with the cannons, but for some reason we did not get to it.

We walked around a lot, popping in and out of shops to browse and photograph. I can't say we purchased anything here. If we had, I just don't remember what it is.

When we got hungry, we chose to eat in leisure. We selected one of the restaurants offering rooftop dining. Unfortunately, the rooftop does not have a roof, which almost made me sick with heat exhaustion. The heat overcame me and I had to ask the waiter if there's a hat I could borrow, or a little shade. There was a shady area in the rooftop but it was taken.

The food was great and the views are outstanding, although we did not have an unobstructed view of the breezy Atlantic Ocean.

When the meal was over we went down, I fed and photographed cats (next post) and we all went back to checking out all the shops.
