Lisbon: Excursion to Sintra, part 2

When we were done with the tour of the Pena Palace, I really thought we were heading back to Lisbon; after all I signed up for a trip to the palace and that has been accomplished. Unbeknownst to me - because I don't read the fine prints - we were also going to 2 other spots nearby. You can imagine my glee. Two bonus locations!

Back down in the Sintra village center, we were given an hour to ourselves either grab some bite or explore the little village center and do some shopping. We did both actually. We first walked away from the bus going deeper into the village and went to a little bakery for some coffee and pastry. Next door is a wine shop where we wanted so much to get a flight of port to taste, but was a bit on the pricey side, so we decided to each just get a glass of red and sip while we enjoy the interior decors of the store.

We wanted to stay there for a bit, but our hour is about to end and we wanted to grab a few souvenir items and so we got out of the wine store and walked towards the shops. There was a busker playing nearby surrounded by admiring tourists. Again, I wanted to stop and watch and listen, but I had to shop. The first souvenir store I entered in is where I got all my shopping done. Not the time to comparison shop.

CABO DO ROCA

Cabo do Roca is the westernmost extent/point in the continental Europe, who knew right? I was glad I got to find out about this spot. If I were a poet or writer, I am pretty sure the beauty of this place would have inspired me to write something.

  9. "Cabo do Roca is the westernmost extent/point in the continental Europe." That in and of itself would be a highlight of the trip, Maria. But again, look at that rugged coastline!
