A Day in Las Palmas (Gran Canaria), part 2

I haven't visited an old town that I didn't like and Vegueta, the old town area in Las Palmas, is one of the nicest I've seen so far. It is filled with cobblestone alleys, squares, colorful houses and buildings and dominated by the impressive Santa Ana cathedral. Best of all, the place can be explored on foot.

The first stop we made was at the perfume store. Here we sniffed scents after scents until my nasal passages got clogged. I'm allergic to some perfumes, so I stopped before I completely develop a headache. They also have beautiful perfume bottles for sale. I was tempted, but I held on to my "greens".

Next door is a store featuring products made from aloe vera.

The Canary Islands Cathedral is one of the more impressive churches I've seen. It has been called Santa Ana Cathedral, because of it's location in Santa Ana Square, and Las Palmas Cathedral in various online articles. I prefer to call it Santa Ana Cathedral. There is a small fee to visit the church and it's well worth the fee.

The cathedral is at one end of the Santa Ana Square and the old town hall is at the other end.

We found out that with our ticket to the HOHO bus, we can avail of a free walking tour. How lucky were we? While waiting for the walking tour to commence, we went shopping, of course.

To be continued.

  1. Always nice to have your wonderful photo archives as memories. And especially now since you are , I’m sure, not going on any exciting trips any time soon.

  5. I always get nauseated after smelling perfumes. I'd get excited to sniff them then regret that excitement when nausea sets in. Great photos!

  6. I doubt we will ever get to the Canary Islands, Maria, so it's good I'm getting to see it through your eyes. I love that we can do that for each other. HA! You know me and cathedrals...and architecture of all kinds. I's skip the perfume store but the aloe vera shop would have my curiosity for sure.
