Sky Watch #46

IMG_0296, originally uploaded by M'roy.

Fog has rolled in over Alcatraz as people in sailboats continue to enjoy the water on this beautiful Memorial Day 2009 afternoon.

I was standing on the pier by Fort Mason with my back towards the beautiful San Francisco waterfront when I snapped this shot.

Skywatch time again. Visit the site for more sky/cloud photos from all over the globe.

That is very cool! I have never seen Alcatraz before. The greyish sky seems to go well with the setting. Great capture!

That's a gorgeous shot. I haven't ever been on Alcatraz but when my brother was competing one year (he's done it several times) in the escape from alcatraz triathlon I watched him swim from there to the place where they hopped on their bikes for the next part. I wasn't into photography back then though so I didn't take many pictures.

Alcatraz is famous, but I fell for the sailboat with all sail set!

Say could you do me a quick favour? for some reason mrlinky on the skywatch site won't allow me to enter my address. Would you be able to enter this for me? Thanks so much I appreciate it....

Love this photo. I haven't been to San Francisco in more than 20 years and even then only saw Alcatraz at a distance. This is a wonderful photo of it and that sailboat and the fog makes this a spectacular photograph.

A moody shot, nice with the sail boat to give it depth.

I saw a very similar scene not too long ago though I haven't yet been able to visit the island itself. I'm definitely going to miss the waterfront when I leave.

That's perfect timing! I love the blue-grey tone.

Swing by Fairhaven anytime of the year. Of course spring and summer would be the best time.

Thanks for visiting Norwich Daily Photo and leaving your comment. Come back tomorrow!

Wow, the colors of your photo are uniquely rendered. The choppy waters almost has a solid feel to it.

What a gorgeous shot of Alcatraz and the bay. The contrast of colors is very beautiful. The last time I visited Alcatraz was in 2005.

The sailboat next to Alcatraz makes the photo really interesting and the tone is so moody.

I am sorry you got locked out of Mr. Linky. i was just there to add a friend who had trouble and I was successful. We are trying to iron out this situation.

Beautiful shot and great clarity. The water looks as choppy (?) as I remember when I visited and took that boat ride around Alcatraz.

Very nice composition. The sailing boat, the building in the background all together look great.

Great shot. I've never seen Alcatraz. The blue-grey tones of the scene work well for it, and it looks like there is still enough brightness to highlight the white of the sails and far left building.
