Xcaret Photos, Part 1

In May we went to Cancun to celebrate our wedding anniversary. That trip was the third time we have been to Cancun. And in that trip we finally got to visit Xcaret. The reason behind the delay in visit to this park was because we were misinformed. We thought Xcaret was all “theme parky” – you know a theme park like Universal Studios but more geared towards water activities. Boy, how wrong were we.

Xcaret is a 250 acre "echo-archeological theme park in Riveria Maya" that offers aquatic activities, natural and cultural attractions and cultural shows. The park has elements of a water park, aquarium, zoo, museum, and cultural center - all under one massive complex.

Since the park is too expansive and as expected I took more photos than necessary, I would share these photos in bite size pieces/posts.

Today I will share two areas in the park.

The first is the Delphinus or the Dolphin Swim. This activity requires an extra fee(regular price is $109). Many come here to be able to swim with the dolphins. As nonswimmers we were content on watching and photographing.

Within the park also lies the Xcaret archeological site. This is an ancient Mayan site, once a ceremonial center and port on an important trade route. The site was at its height from around 1400 to 1517 where it was the main port of embarcation for pilgrimmage heading to the island of Cozumel to the shrine of goddess Ixchel.

  1. Looks a great place to visit.

  2. I had the opportunity to meet & touch a dolphin once and it was a special treat.
Thanks for sharing these photos at http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2016/09/los-viejos.html

  3. Hello, I would love to swim and touch the dolphins. I think I was there years ago, they may have changed the place, I thought is was a place for snorkeling. Happy Monday, enjoy your new week!

  4. So enjoyed your wonderful photo tour ~ I would love to swim with those dear dolphins!

    Happy Creating ~ ^_^

  5. I love the ruins, a prelude in miniatures to those in Peru. The cost of swimming with the dolphins is maybe high to our standards. There is an activity like that in Subic Bay and the area looking better because it is a part of the sea with infinite view.

  6. Beautiful place. Loved to read your post. Awesome pics.

  7. I just wrote this down for my bucket list. Have to find out more about Cancun.

  8. lovely spot, i kinda feel for the dolphins though not being out in the ocean.

  9. Very interesting that they made an archeological discovery into a sort-of theme park (but better).

  10. Hi! Xcaret looks nice place to visit. I feel weight of the history at the same time. Thanks for sharing.

  13. Congratulations to your Wedding Anniversary!
    Wonderful place and gorgeous photos!

  14. I'm sure glad you did your homework to find out it was more than you had originally thought. That happens to us, too, as we pick-n-choose where we will travel.

  15. What an amazing place! So lovely!
