Ireland: Day 5 (Galway) part 2

In the course of our exploration of the mall, we walked out of it by accident and into a pedestrian only street with stores and restaurants flanking both sides of the cobblestone streets. It was raining and freezing.









As we continued to walk, we arrived at Latin Square. We did not know that the Square, the mall and the cathedral are within walking distance of each other. How convenient for us. We could stay here all day and leisurely inspect every nook and cranny of this area. We might have done that, for we stayed here all day long, from morn till night.









While nearing the place we earmarked as a lunch spot for this day, the weather turned uglier. The rain came down heavy and sideways. Luckily, we were able to duck into the Pie Maker







We enjoyed one of the meat pies and a local beer and marveled at how tiny the place is. We were the only ones there at the odd hour but soon got full because of the inclement weather. This place is a very good change from the usual fish and chips that tourists (me) always get when its on the menu.

Back out in the cold after our meal, we strolled around a bit until we reach the Spanish Arch (read this).







We continued sauntering past the arch and into the waterfront. On the walk back we saw another church, but didn't see the need to go in. The weather had really gotten uglier and the cold got even colder. Thankfully, we saw a chocolate shop that also sells coffee. Great spot to warm up. We were about to leave the shop when the rain and bitter cold turned into SNOW! We left the store once the weather settled down a bit. Or so we thought. As soon as we were on the sidewalk, oh boy, we knew we had to wait it out. Luckily, next door to the chocolate shop is a book store, the traditional kind of bookstore. We browsed and browsed. There were children with their parents browsing as well. It was a nice little thing to do on the vacation.











By this time we were hungry again. We returned to the mall to get some food and more coffee. It was very cold and snowing as we left the mall. We were bound for some traditional music in a pub called Tigh Choili (none of the people we asked knew how to pronounce it). Every night at 6 and 9:30 pm the pub features live musicians. We were there a little before 6 and we got a pint for the hubby and a little fruity drink for me. The pub doesn't serve any food at all, only drinks. We sipped our drinks while enjoying the live music.




It says: it takes 119.5 seconds to pour the perfect pint.





We walked back to the cathedral parking area to collect the car and was amused to find snow collected in the car's hood and roof and windshield.





We stopped at Lidl for some necessities before we drove back to the hotel. We enjoyed the take away dinner in our room while mapping out the plan for the next city.
