Big Island: Kona Joe Coffee Plantation

Day 3 was allocated as Kona Day. After breakfasting at home, we drove northward towards Kona, which is on the other side of the island. It was a very long drive, most of it my gal pal and I spent it napping, while our husbands in the front kept yakking.

The first order of business was to visit the Kona Joe Coffee Plantation where we signed up for a tour of the facility. We toured the facility from the room where they store the beans after harvest to the washing room to the roasting and to the packaging area. It was quite educational. Once that was done we were given a cute Kona Joe mug as part of the tour. Yes, we got to sample the coffee as well.

We were not able/allowed to see the plantation behind the building, which goes down to the ocean. But we were shown beans on the live plants around the building.

  6. When I drove my parents and their siblings around all the yakking came from my mother and her sisters, the men had no chance at all. Did the place smell like coffee?
