Vegas After Dark

Back after a week-long road trip hitting some incredible scenery and terrain in Nevada, Arizona and Utah. On this road trip we chose Las Vegas as our entry and exit points. This road trip coincided with our annual wedding anniversary trip. Last year it was in San Diego with my college roommate that we spent our anniversary. We were a bit ambitious this time around. Anyway, the narrative for that road trip will be forthcoming. It's actually in queue right now, as I have 2 other trips that I have yet to post here.

This is about Vegas, or how little we saw and experienced it this time. It was kind of foolish to plan a trip over the Memorial Day holiday and book hotels/motels late when everything else is either sold out or priced way above normal.

We arrived the evening of our anniversary and despite all our research we did not find anything on the strip that was tempting to us. We wanted something different. I wanted sushi. But my husband wanted to try something else.

There is this restaurant that came up on our online research. It came up because I filtered for tapas, which I absolutely love. The restaurant is called Forte European Tapas Bar and Bistro and it's off the strip, on a strip mall away from all neon signs. It was about 9 pm when we got there and it's a no frills place that offered some mouth-watering goodies. We got a bottle of Italian red from their stock and the food kept coming. Service is wonderful, the staff friendly and informative.

So for our anniversary we had some Bulgarian mixed grill, Bulgarian stuffed sweet peppers, kachapurri which is a Russian boat shaped flat bread that was yummy. They were all wonderful tasting. The marcona almond stuffed dates wrapped in bacon came out the favorite of mine from this line-up. Just lovely to be able to sample Bulgarian food in Vegas of all places.

After flying in the night of the anniversary dinner, we were off and the was back in Vegas the night before our departure. On this night, we were too tuckered out from the adventure and opted to do a buffet in our hotel/casino. Nothing to write home about this time. While still exhausted we wanted to go out and see take photos of the strip at night. However, we drove around back and forth and could not find a parking spot. As a result these shots were the ones I took while we were driving around the strip looking for parking.

The night shots are taken through the windshield, on the move, in a nightshot mode of my Google Pixel 3. I love this phone camera. It is simply taking over all my photography needs. I sometimes rely more on it than my DSLR.

  10. I love Spanish food, being a Spanish colony for 330 years, Philippine cuisine is greatly influenced by it. And our version of tapas or "tapa" as we call it, evolved into a dish best served with rice :) Amazing captures, those lights in Vegas are colorful!
