Egypt: Day 4 ( A Day at Leisure in a Nubian Village)
We sat with a couple who were already on dessert course and for that they were having guavas. The restaurant's breakfast offerings were extensive and tempting. In addition, the hotel had the coffee machine that makes different fancy coffee creations. I was in heaven. Me and my simple pleasures. The guavas though were some of the best I've ever had in my life. I'm glad I left enough room in my stomach for them. If I'm not mistaken, I believe I had 3 of them and they're not the small guavas from Mexico that you see in the grocery stores here in US. They are the size of apples, so I overate.
Through breakfast, the four of us chatted about how to spend the few hours until a rep from the tour company will collect us to take us to the cruise ship. We agreed a short visit to the Nubian village nearby was doable. The alternative is not too tempting - either visit the same market we visited last night, or inspect what else is on the resort.
The plan was made and by the time we were boarding the boat, two other tour mates joined us. The boat ride was quick in my estimation, or was it only because I was enjoying the scenery along the way.
Pretty soon, I noticed these colorful houses along the Nile. I was sure this was part of the village. Such a beautiful scenery.
Katodool, the Nubian village.
We knew we had very limited time to explore the market. Thankfully, it was quite small, but the rest of the village we did not even get to see. The blue house that has a alligator pet was open to the public and is a must visit here it seems.
What a gate!
Inside the house.
Shopping inside.
Climb all the way up and see this rooftop view of the structures within the village.
We had a very short time to spend in the village, which was mostly spent in the bazaar. Darlene's must-buys have been bought and we all hurried to catch another boat back to the hotel because pick up time for the Nile cruise ship was around elevenish. The boat driver did all he can in his capacity to make it on time. We were a few minutes late and saw most of our tour mates assembled in the lobby with a rep from the tour company. Needless to say, there was a couple of ladies that did not take kindly to our tardiness and felt they should say something about it. The negativity was misdirected, I thought, for we were not the last ones to arrive. As a matter of fact, the group was not ready to leave; the guys were still not done loading the luggage.
