And The Quarantine Goes On

Right now the status quo or shelter-in-place continuous indefinitely (or May 31st here in California according to the recent order) and thankfully Spring marches forward with its gorgeous blooms as well. I am so happy with all the beautiful roses currently in bloom in my garden. Green thumb I don't have, nor do I enjoy puttering in the garden like many others, but I truly enjoy the roses when in bloom. And in quarantine I have so much time to watch them and they give me so much pleasure. In pre-quarantine time I barely noticed my garden and sometimes the blooms would fall out by the time I have time to be in the yard. But thankfully now I do and during breaks from my WFH duties, I go out and literally smell the roses.

And because of the quarantine, even though we work from home, my husband was able to start his vegetable garden - one he's been talking about for a long time. It's on its starting stage, but everything looks good so far.

On the diet front, I was doing a low-carb diet before the quarantine. I've been good so far, although I've "binged" on carbs on more occasions this quarantine and I feel lousy about it.

I am a mediocre cook and my go-to dish is stir-fry veggies.

Different veggies same stir fry style.

My husband is a great cook. He made lamb shank with mashed cauliflower. Restaurant quality if you ask me (of course I'm biased).

Very sad of the economic impact this quarantine has on many businesses including restaurants, so we make a point to order take-out at least once a week. We are normally a cook-at home couple because we want to control what's going in the food we eat, but to support the local businesses we order take out.

The Cauliflower dough pizza at Costco is really good.

I have developed a strong liking to cauliflower fried rice.

So, that's what's going on in my neck of the woods. How is everyone? Hopefully, you're enjoying the beauty of Spring and eating all the carbs that you want, j/k.

  1. Hang in there! Be glad you weren’t in the middle of a cruise when all this hit! Your roses are beautiful and must make it easier to be stuck at home! All your meals look good. At first I really missed being able to out to eat whenever we wanted to, but have kind of adjusted now. Bill is cooking more too, so we’re sharing and that makes it fun.

  2. Beautiful roses! I'm good with planting vegetables, but flowers don't like me. I do take care of orchids and succulents indoors. My seedlings aren't ready for the garden yet. We've had some chilly temperatures lately.

I don't like cauliflower rice. I think I haven't found a good substitute for rice yet. Rice is so hard for me to give up :(.

  3. You've got quite the garden to pay attention to. Lovely, beautiful blooms. My wife has reignited certified MasterGardener mojo and has been going crazy. She's about to go full banshee on the rabbits that have started munching on her hostas though.

  9. Wow your roses are in full bloom, so lovely! I wish I had a garden not that I have a green thumb, I just like greenery in whatsoever form. A welcome respite in the urban jungle I live in, nowadays. Yes we also have some meals delivered but more for variety sake. =)

  13. Oh my goodness, look at all those gorgeous roses! I am in Massachusetts and I can’t quite figure out when we will begin to reopen. I hear one thing and then I hear the opposite. I’m just going to sit tight and wait to see what happens. I teach toddlers at a private Montessori school with students through grade 8 and we will not reopen until at least 29 June! As you say, I now have plenty of time to enjoy my garden.

  17. I was seeing those beautiful booms then I found the most fragrant photo of them all, PANDA EXPRESS! OMG I miss their Orange Chicken and Beijing Beef a lot! Last year on my birthday I really was craving for it like so bad, and I don't get to have a long vacation to visit my brother back in California so I decided to just celebrate it somewhere near where there is Panda Express and I went to Guam just for it HAHA. That's how I love their food! I had two meals of Panda Express everyday for the whole three days I was there.

Now to the roses, I was super amazed by the variety of colors and sizes, especially the ones with your hand to show how huge that one is! The velvety red is a showstopper but my heart always flutter for yellow roses just like the ones you shared!
