2020 Photos Recap

What can I say about 2020 that hasn't been said already? Nothing. I don't want to and never have editorialized here in this blog, but allow me to share what this year has been for me.

When the year started I was full of hope for getting back in shape. Also wanted to visit as many regional parks in the Bay Area as possible.
Unfortunately, the past year will always be remembered for the toilet paper shortage.

With us in lockdown for most of the year, we resorted to short drives around the region - sometimes in the guise of getting take-outs (yeah from 50 miles away) or sometimes just to get a different scenery like all the murals we photographed in both San Francisco and Oakland.

With all of our time spent at home, we found ways to spend our free time wisely and productively.

I had a bumper crop season for roses and my succulents fluorished like never before.
The husband finally got around to starting a vegetable garden. I was in charge of watering and harvesting.

Despite my disinterest in anything to do with kitchen, I managed to try my hand at cooking and baking.

Stuffed pumpkim blossom.

Roasted cornish game hen.

My passion fruit vine produced a bountiful harvest in the summer time that there was plenty left after giving them away to friends and family that I decided to make passion fruit pie/tart. OMG, even I was surprised this turned good and super tasty. I used pre-made crust because you know me, amateur.
The truth of the matter is the extent of my kitchen expertise lies in sauteing vegetables. I'm pretty good at it.

This is also an election year.

I suppose the one thing that I can never ever forget about this year was during the summer at the height of multiple wildfires on top of the pandemic lockdown when we woke up to an eerie surrounding. Weirdest feeling I've ever felt.

I am thankful that the kind of work I do can be commpleted by telecommuting, that I survived the pandemic year with a roof over my head and refrigerator full of food and a family who are all safe and sound even though we could only communicate by text or social media, that my frontliner friend tested negative for covid and that I have remained sane for most of the year. I have friends who died this year and friends who divorced/applied for divorce this year. The worst feeling when all you want to do is reach out and hug a friend during their loss either by death or divorce but you can't.

I'm praying that 2021 will see better versions of ourselves because of the experiences we had to go through in 2020. Remain safe and keep others safe by masking up and washing your hands.

  4. It was certainly a year that none of us could have predicted. As much as it was stressful and strange it also taught me that the simple joys of life are precious and dear and to be grateful for what I have. I am hopeful this new year will bring us all closer to normalcy. Happy New Year!

  10. Many of us share that lack of getting close to people; giving a hug when needed. Life is just never going to be the same again.

  14. 2020 certainly was a year for the books... not what any of us had planned that’s for sure. You did a nice job reviewing it without getting political (not easy to do) ... Like you two, we learned ways of coping by taking local(ish) drives and we picked up new skills in the kitchen since “eating out” wasn’t feasible (still isn’t) . For someone self described as disinterested in kitchen skills you did one heck of a great job by the way. And also of food photography ! ..... Hang in there, we will make it through this eventually.

  18. Thank you for visiting my blog. Happy New Year to you too and wish you and your family a great year ahead and heathier years to come. Hope the virus will disappear soon. 2020 is a terrible year, many people affected by it. I was lucky to travel in January 2020 to Okinawa and luckily the virus was not that bad that time, I did not even know about the seriousness of the virus till I came back in mid January. By then cant even get any masks. Now everything is under control in my country. We are waiting to be vaccinated and hope the virus will disappear and the world will be safe and healthy again.

  20. In Finland people also hoarded toiletpaper. There was no shortage of it until everybody all of a sudden bought so much that they probably still have some left.

That ballot box seems bit weird to me. In the street and no oversight of it. Hmm..

The Angel photo is bit eerie yes. Looks very weird indeed.
