Sky Watch #50
Skywatching on foot in Manhattan got me to this charming building. I don't know what it is. I didn't really get close to it because by this time we realized we were lost and decided to retrace our steps back to the subway station, which is more or less two blocks from this building.
Anybody know what this building houses?

Funny... first word that came to mind when I saw that was... charming! Wouldn't expect that in Manhattan.
ReplyDeleteRunning for cover isn't so bad. It's good to be cautious. ;-)
this is indeed charming! a good finding!
ReplyDeleteWas this taken at the South Street Seaport or mid town Manhattan? Certainly its beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't know what it is or what it houses but I wish it were mine! :)
ReplyDeleteI'd say this was worth getting lost for - a real architectural beauty.

ReplyDeleteI thought I'd pop back and answer your question, yes that is a crepe myrtle tree. That's one of mine and I enjoy them a lot. They also come in white, purple and various other shades.

ReplyDeleteNo idea but it´s cute among all those non-personal buildings.

ReplyDeletestraight out of a fairy tale!!
ReplyDeleteYES...I know what it is...it appeared on my blog a month or so ago...saw it while walking home one day past Morningside Park, Morningside Heights, (while I was staying in NYC with my daughter and family). NOT downtown Manhattan...Uptown...Upper West side. North of the top of Central Park...it is now upmarket apartments apparently, our good friend with us who lived around there, told us. I think it must have been some sort of church. Sorry I didn't get to find out about the history...but will do some delving and see what I can come up with.
ReplyDeleteOne of my last precious long walks in NYC before I had to come home to Australia. So on my blog it was probably about late May, early June, I think.
No idea what the building is, but I do like it very much.
ReplyDeleteNice building...and image!
ReplyDeleteThe cone shaped roof is really interesting. Seems like metal to me :)
ReplyDeleteLovely blue sky!
Nice shot! My daughter said it looks like a castle. I love the red building. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit!
These are very attractive "cones" on this unusual building. A fine street shot.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot. Great tour adventure.
ReplyDeleteDon't know what's in the building, but it looks sort of like a brick wedding cake, doesn't it? And I love your Naked Cowboy snap, too. We're well acquainted with his shenanigans!
ReplyDeleteLove the architecture, nice cones and I agree that it looks like a castle. Don't have a clue about it too. Didn't see this when I visited NY.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend! :)
Wonderful building, NYC still has much of its history intact!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what the building is, but it certainly has interesting and unusual architecture. Great capture.
ReplyDeleteMmm. Gives me another view of Manhattan. I love the blue sky. Send some over please, if you would :)
ReplyDeleteIf you could tell me the intersection (street and avenue) where this building is, I could do some research for you.
ReplyDeleteIt is a nice building and if you said that you were close to a subway station, it could be either on the East or West side of Manhattan because subway lines run the length of both sides of the island. Still doesn't tell me much due to the number of stations that line both routes.
I don't know the building Photo Cache but I'll try to find out! :)
ReplyDeletePhoto Cache, The Towers, on Central Park West at 105th Street, has long been one of the city's spookiest ruins. But developer Dan McLean thinks that when his renovation is done, affluent New Yorkers will flock to it, as they once flocked to the Dakota. Towers on Central Park West
ReplyDeleteThe Towers was originally put up in 1884 by John Jacob Astor III as the New York Cancer Hospital (a precursor of Sloan-Kettering). Its rounded towers were designed on the theory that germs couldn't hide in the corners. :)
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nytimes.com/2002/12/01/nyregion/01NURS.html This is a newspaper article written in 2002, Photo Cache about the Towers building.
ReplyDeleteSome real close-up images of the Towers, Photo cache!
