Beautiful Beyond Words
Nothing could have prepeared me for the beauty that was Malta (Valletta specifically). Awe struck was I when the boat was entering the harbour. This was the one port where I was completely blown away. When we docked in Civitavecchia, I expected to be wowed by Rome and I was; in Piraeus I was ready to be amazed by the historic Acropolis and I was; in Izmir I was ready for the sublime beauty of its Ephesian ruins and I was; in Alexandria I was prepared to be impressed by the Pyramids of Giza and boy I was and was also pleasantly surprised beyond words of the charm that was Alexandria. BUT nothing, nothing could have prepared me for the striking beauty that was Valletta, Malta (our last port of call before returning back to Barcelona). Here see for yourselves.
We entered through that narrow opening in the breakwater.
The fortified city of Valletta, Malta's capital.
Sights I cannot get enough of. This is one place where photos I thought did not do it justice at all. Can you tell I fell in love with this place?
Was so impressed by the landscape that when a co-worker asked me about my trip, I told him that I was bowled over by the grandeur of Malta and I thought it was the perfect locale for a honeymoon. I didn't know he was engaged (could he have gotten engaged in the 3 weeks that I was on this cruise/trip?) and was surprised when he told me that he and his fiancee were considering it as their honeymoon spot :D
As a matter of fact, he had asked me to show him my photos of Malta immediately after coming back from this trip. I hope he does pick this for his honeymoon spot.

ReplyDeleteI never would have known what you have said here about Malta, Maria. Now you have caught my curiosity!!!
ReplyDeleteAng ganda! And just yesterday a French officemate and I were chatting about his coming vacation in Malta. I was clueless yesterday and now I am green with envy!
ReplyDeleteit's such a secluded place, so far-off from the rest, where venice's too crowded,
ReplyDeletehere, you can enjoy its scenery without bumping into each others' faces, can;t wait to see more of it!
now i;m curious what it has to offer.
and yes, ulti-romantic!
@ MARIAN - talagang parang postcard ang lugar. i felt like i stepped into a postcard shot.
ReplyDelete@ WITS - i didn't do any research on malta prior to the cruise. my energies were spent on rome, athens and cairo. so i really was completely blown away when i first laid eyes on malta.
@ LINNEA - it's a pity really that it's so far away from NorCal :(
@ ATTICUS - some dates back to the 16th century.
ReplyDelete@ JM and Ginnie - please go coz I want to see this place thru your lenses. You both know how to capture a place/subject so perfectly.
Honestly, this is my first time to see photos of Malta and I'm awed just as you were - it's like the whole island was built like one huge fortress brimming with character! Entering through that small channel must be quite a challenge to the ship's captain, no?
ReplyDeleteOf course I had to read all the posts that I missed again. Valleta is gorgeous! I think I'd be happy just visiting this and Alexandria. Wow, wow, wow!
ReplyDeletesure looks like a great place to have your second honeymoon :)
