People Watching

There are times when I set out to photograph people. Other times, people finds me. Just like this one time when we drove up to Capitola just to have a wonderful day out. I was done shooting the water and landscape shots. At the end of the pier there was a restaurant that featured live music. I was ready to just soak up the sun and listen to the rhythmic sound filling the area. Until a group to teenagers walked in all happy and smiling. I got curious and followed them at the end of the pier and saw they were there for a kayaking trip. Curiously I noticed there wasn't any adult with them.

Anyway.....

What a cool experience for a child to be kayaking.

The child was smiling here.

All of a sudden she fell into the water, which I was too slow to capture. I must have been scared for that's why I froze. But she got scooped immediately and was put in the middle of the kayak.

The other people in the group had no trouble.

There were cheers from those who stayed behind.

There were also paddleboarders on the water that time.

Finally on the way out, I made the camera work out some more to photograph surfers chilling on their boards waiting for the big one.

OUR WORLD TUESDAY.

Comments

  1. Elders in that part of the world are more open for their kids, here it is not possible to allow them like that. It is scary as they are already in blue waters, which i noticed is a bit brown in the shallower parts. Besides, maybe the 2 older ones are knowledgeable doing that, so the youngest is so trusting. But if i were the parent, i really will not allow it.

    Beautiful shots as always.

  4. It's wonderful to see the kids having fun without adults monitoring every move. They'll gain more confidence in their own abilities...at least that's what I think. AND they do have life jackets on, which would give adults time to gt to them if help were needed.

  10. People watching is great fun and children in their brazen, unpredictability are the most fun.
I think these kids are pretty safe ... they are certainly under the watchful eye of many people. I doubt that anything could happen that couldn't be dealt with. Fun post ...

  13. Great shots. Good seeing those smiling youngsters and that the teens were taking such good care of the younger one. I especially liked the fact that all of them had life preservers on. I passed life savings as a teen and I used to babysit for families at the beach in the summer so it doesn't seem odd to me for the teens to be taking care of the child in the water although if I'm honest when it came to my daughter, I was very protective. My daughter was a strong swimmer from a young age but I always watched her like a hawk in the ocean.

  14. Such a lovely job following these young people on their kayaking trip. Great capture of their fun time. I'm so touched by that second photo where the older kids were consoling the younger one who fell in the water. Great capture of the moment.

  20. Fabulous series! Glad those people found you and your camera. Really captures the joy of the beach (well for the most part joy, except for that little girl falling in but all's well that ends well!)
