Random Mission

Today my husband and I went to visit an octogenarian friend of ours who's back home after knee replacement surgery. Well she's back home for a couple of weeks now after a few weeks in rehab center so she's pretty much mobile. But that's not what I want to share. This is what I want to share. On top of her dining room table are boxes, big and small, containing slides. There are more boxes on the floor. She took them out of the garage and started to sort them. Her husband passed away a year ago and she had started to decline in health and so she's starting to get her affairs in order. You never know.

Born and raised in the Philippines, I've never seen a slide until today. Well, I've seen it once on an old movie. But the thing is she has tons of slides dating back to 1928 that she got when her parents passed. So we sat at the dining room table inspecting the slide with this little gadget that I don't know the name of and one by one inserted the slides and saw her pictures from when she lived in Hawaii in 1955. So many photos.

I asked her if in the process of sorting she came across a slide that she could not remember, her answer was, "Of course not, I remember them all."

That is exactly how I feel about all my photos. So sentimental about them that deleting one is so difficult, that despite the constant complaints of my husband and his pleas of just keeping the "good ones",I simply cannot be an obedient wife (in this case).

Enough of my blabbering. But I like taking picture so much that even when we run errands in the city, I bring a camera and take pictures while on the go.

So here are some of the pictures I took for no good reason at all other than I was happy that day, the sun was out, the weather was mild and people on the street seem to be happy.

When I think of Mission District I think of food and murals. There are a lot of good restaurants that cater to all price range and the variety of cuisines is impressive.

  5. How great that your friend had such a super way to catalogue the events of her life. The funny thing about personal history is that (if you live long enough) it becomes valuable historic information. It is so cool to see the hairdos, clothes, furniture, homes and streets of days gone by.

  15. I think half of my mem cards are filled with photo trips, dinner reunions and whatnots. Not counting those that are transferred to dvd's. ^0^
the fact that she kept those precious memories intact and to have them still in good shape despite the antique gadgetry is something I hope to do in the future.

ps: glad that both of you are doing okay, stay safe.
