Port of Call: Corfu Part 2
The monastery at the top of the hill in Paleokastritsa was the next stop. The monastery of Paleokastritsa bears the name of the Virgin Mary, Panagia in Greek. It is believed that it was first established in the 13th century, but the present buildings were constructed in the 18th century. It is home to 8 monks, although we didn't see any. Entrance is free of charge.
The grounds inside and outside the monastery are home to many cats (separate post) and I was warmly welcomed by one of them, obviously representative of the clowder.
