Mt. Diablo State Park: Summit Views
Two decades! I've been living here in the Bay Area for a total of 22 years and I just visited Mt. Diablo State Park. Better late than never. Besides I have yet to go to Alcatraz. Such is the case with the sights nearby, they always are the last to be visited.
Anyway, over the long 4th of July weekend, we finally got a chance to see the park. The annual church camping is happening at Mt. Diablo in a week and as always we went there for advance scouting of the place. With the drought, it was reported that no running water was available.
Ten dollars for entrance to the park is paid. Before we went straight to our campsite, we wanted to see the summit first. This is one of the few spots in the Bay Area that gets snow flurries in the winter time. At the top of the afternoon, we went to the summit, looked out at the observation deck at this region we call home.

From the summit it is said that on a clear day visitors can see 35 of California's 58 counties. It is said that the view is surpassed only by that of 19,000-foot Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. And it is also said that with binoculars, Yosemite's Half Dome is visible from Mt. Diablo.
Well, we didn't see that far. We focused on the surrounding landscape.
You can tell by the photos that it was one hot day, which was why we didn't stay long up there. We drove down to find our group campsite and found that it was true. The campsite had no running water nor bathroom, but a short drive away in another campsite is running water and flush toilets.
The brochure stated there was a place called Rock City inside the park so we checked it out.

Love the panoramic view from the summit
ReplyDeleteSpectacular views from the top.
ReplyDeleteAwesome vistas! It has been unusually dry in many places it seems. I can see how the beacon in our future will not be a building but a tap of running water.
ReplyDeleteThe views from the top are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful park, just seeing the fantastic views made it worth the visit. The rock formations are neat too. Wonderful images, thanks for sharing. Have a happy week!

ReplyDeleteThat's very true what you say, the last things we would visit are the once around us ! What a beautiful landscape ! I have been visiting Alcatraz, what a interesting but horrible place !
ReplyDeletelol, I know what you say. Locals never see the treasures they have. Turists do. :) I like the kind of nature you are sharing from the area :)
ReplyDeleteWhat splendid sights. We've been thinking of going to Mt. Diablo State Park for a while now. It's the temperatures that's preventing us from doing that.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to go see these sights.
A few years back, we caught some sights from the top of the Diablo range when we made a trip to Mt. Hamilton.
I'll make sure we carry binoculars when we visit Mt. Diablo SP. Thank you. Thank you, Thank you. :)
