A Beach Break
When we were planning this week-long stay in Florida, we definitely penciled in a beach time. However, no definite day for the beach was planned; although we thought that we would do it on the 5th day. Having bought a multi-day ticket to Universal Studios we were under the impression that we HAD to go three consecutive days. On the second day we were there, we were so exhausted. So much so that we asked one of the ticket takers if we could skip a day for a little break. We were told that we were free to use these days any time within a 10-day period from the first day you visit. That made us really happy and relieved.
Even the kids have requested a time away from the theme park. Cursory check on the internet back home yielded the name Cocoa Beach. Given that the place is new to our ears, curiosity got the better of us and on the third day in Florida we had our beach break.
The drive was easy and quite scenic and only about 1.5 hours away from our base in Orlando.
On the way home we stopped for a bite of Venezuelan delicacies.
We had fried yucca.
And fried plantain.
The adults had arepas (shown), empanadas, and pasteles.
And the youngest ordered the steak and rice and beans plate. Typically he's too tough to feed, so when he orders a plate we were happy to see him inhale the meal.

Glad you got the beach break! Cocoa Beach was our first visit to the Atlantic ocean as well.
ReplyDeleteGotta love the colorful beach umbrellas...and the two women having that wonderful chat at the water's edge. GREAT!
ReplyDeleteCocoa beach, quite an unusual name but looks like a fun place to be :-)
ReplyDeleteGood to have a break from theme parks. Looks a great beach for relaxing.
ReplyDeleteCocoa Beach looks like it's fun for every age group. We've visited Florida a few times, but I don't think we've been to Cocoa Beach.
ReplyDeleteFried plantains and yucca...very South American...but I've never seen arepas before.
I think another visit to Florida will be on our list for "some day"!

ReplyDeleteOh wow! I have heard about Cocoa Beach but have not been. Looks amazing! You are killing me with that Venezuelan food. Would love to try some of that right now. The dished you presented are very similar to the ones eaten in the Caribbean. #WordlessWednesday
