A Thanksgiving Tradition
I noticed that the older I get the more appreciative I am of the traditions in my life. A few years ago we started the tradition of driving to Napa as an alternative to shopping on Black Friday. While we were busy on Black Friday as we were hosting a Friendsgiving, we managed to continue the drive to Napa on Saturday. As luck would have it, the conditions were not ideal for a photo session. It was grey and misty and drizzly and cold. I did most of my shooting while the car was on the move. There was little chance to step out of the car and explore on foot because darkness was descending on the valley way too fast and the air was getting colder by the minute.
Don't get me wrong here, all year long we take drives to Napa. With its proximity to us, it is what we call our instant vacation destination if we only have a few hours to get away. However, there is something about the valley in November that I love. It's not one specific thing, but a combination of small things.
Rain is coming.
Rainbow sighting is a bonus.
Birds, birds!

I've only been there once on a train trip for a good dinner and wine tasting. How nice.

ReplyDeleteYour tradition of Napa Valley after Thanksgiving is like our going to a Christmas market somewhere nearby here in Europe, Maria. I LOVE these traditions. They're what make us tick, year after year!
ReplyDeleteSeveral great sky shots ~ love the rainbow ~ we had one recently and I always feel there is something sacred about it ~ thanks
ReplyDeleteWishing you a Happy Week ~ ^_^
I would have to say those are great photos for "drive by" photography especially.

Hello, gorgeous series on Napa. I love the vineyards. The birds shot is cool. Pretty rainbow! Happy Friday, enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful trip. Thanks for allowing us to tag along with you.
ReplyDeleteMm lovely... a perfect instant vacation destination ... you are fortunate. TG weekend is known as a great time to go wine tasting, at least in in Oregon.... was it too cold for you to visit and sample at your favorite wineries?
ReplyDeleteI have never been to Napa. I loved the rainbow and the bird picture. What a lovely setting. The Unknown Journey Ahead http://agingonthespectrum.blogspot.com

ReplyDeleteThat's a perfect place to be grateful for all great accomplishments! Really love the autumn scenery there <3!
ReplyDeletePictures with vineyard are the best for me, beautiful colours of Autumn. Picture with birds scares me a little bit. It reminds me of Hitchcock's movie. It's a compliment :)

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, in the one photo the birds like are everywhere and make the post appear to be a tree without leaves. What a find! I enjoyed the cyber tour. Thank you.
