My First California State Fair
Anyway, I finally got to go to the California State Fair today, July 20. The annual state fair at the California Expo in Sacramento this year runs from July 12 to 28. This being my first time to go, I was quite overwhelmed. There are too many things to see at a very small amount of time. But we have to make do with what we have and make the most of the limited time. In short, we opted to go for the music, some of the exhibits and of course, food. The weather was a pleasant 90F, cooler than the usual 100-degree weather for Sacramento in the summertime.
Online, we found out that they offer a food pass for $28, which gives you 4 food vouchers. A good deal I think, because the food items are costly, as they do in fairs and festivals.
We entered two buildings, A and B, where there were exhibits from counties, cooking demos, and a whole lot of shopping.
The Farm to Glass exhibit/area is pretty interesting. We did not partake of any alcoholic beverage because we had over an hour's drive to home, but I found all the posted materials about alcoholic beverages informative.
Like old fogeys that we are (not really), we stayed to listen to two sets of blues music at the Blues and Brews section. The husband enjoyed the music so much that he bought a cd and got it autographed, which I found too funny. Then it was time to go home. I did not get to see the animals or the produce, or try the carnival rides. There's always the next time for the things I miss this time.
OUR WORLD TUESDAY
Wow, it looks busy and noisy and colorful and informative .... all the things a State Fair should be. The Farm to Glass exhibit seems unique to California and quite interesting.
ReplyDeleteHello, the state fair looks like a fun time. Nice exhibits. Our Maryland State Fair is at the end of August thru Labor Day. Fun photos. Enjoy your day, wishing you a great new week!
ReplyDeleteHave been to a few of the state fairs around L.A for the then teens, and that was a long time ago. So true, there is too much! Enjoyed the food there the most, haha:) Thanks for your comment!
ReplyDeleteA state fair is always such fun!
ReplyDeleteGood for you. I love the Tulsa State Fair and I've got my routine down pat. I always take the shuttle bus to get there. I only have food if there is something extraordinary. A couple years ago I tried the cricket pizza for example. I usually don't get food. I check out the photography and crafts section, and the 4H and FFA barns. I like to check out the animals the cattle especially. I can get the whole thing done in a couple of hours and that includes a beer.
ReplyDeleteI go again on Sunday when they have the International Cake Baking contest but the big cake lady has pulled the plug on that.
So much to see, experience and enjoy. Looks far too big to see in a day.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a nice place to spend a good few hours.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, what a treasure!! I love fairs!
ReplyDeleteLooks nice :)
ReplyDeleteIt's been ages since I visited a fair. I've been thinking about the state fair for around 5 years now, but the heat keeps discouraging me.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the glimpses of the big event. :)
Hi! It looks very fun! It's nice you can get 4 dishes by USD 28.
