Our World

Our world right now is facing an unprecedented crisis. None of us in this country has been in this situation before, right? We remember the SARS virus a few years ago and while it was widespread, it didn't affect us in this country the way this COVID-19 is doing right now.

These are difficult times and people react differently to fear and uncertainty. Many make sure that they have enough of the basic needs on hand. That's the one thing they can control right now. So, in a way I understand the impulse to hoard basic items including the popular toilet paper. I don't necessarily agree with it. And I hope that the urge to hoard had subsided because others are left without.

In a way, I think this quarantine, lock-down, or shelter in place or whatever you might call it is Mother Nature's way of taking time off from people and all the pollution we bring. Photos of a cleaner canal waters in Venice surfaced after days of quarantine and clearer, bluer skies of Manila were shared on social media, something they say haven't been seen in a long while.

I know that as much as this situation poses health threats, food shortages and financial hardships to many, all of us should just listen to the directive to stay at home and help curtail the spread of this deadly virus. Let's be united in defeating this enemy.

And while I'm stuck at home and unable to travel for the foreseeable future, let me share some photos from previous "road" trips. Looking at old photos and reminiscing the joy of travel are effective stress relievers for me.

Aside from traveling, I also enjoy photographing nature. Hope these images ease our anxieties a bit while we sit home and worry about the uncertainty.

I pray we come out of this better, kinder people and responsible caretakers of this planet we live in. In the meantime, follow the guidelines set out by those who know and stay home and be safe and pray. This too shall pass.

  1. Fabulous travel memories ... and the pics are all so nice. It is definitely a different world out there now. Stay well and keep posting those archived pictures. They’re all new to us (or I’ve forgotten them which is entirely possible) , but all your trips are worth a second look! I do remember your previous posts on some of these places, but the pictures seem new!

  5. I agree. Mother Earth is healing. I think that this is a needed break for our "go' nature of living. One thing I miss though is traveling. Thank you for sharing these photos.
