Memorable Malaga: The Second Time Around

Following a very pleasant visit to Mijas, we drove back to Malaga. The first stop was at Castillo de Gibralfaro, but none of us was keen on visiting the castle. So instead we took this chance for potty break and at the same time enjoy the sweeping view from up there.

Next, the driver took us to another view point that has an equally incredible views of Malaga including the bullring and the port.

Finally, we arrived in Malaga downtown/old town where we ditch the car and the driver/tour guide walked us through the area. I was a little out of sorts at the beginning, because although I have walked these cobblestones before I haven't been to this part. He took us to the place where Pablo Picasso was born and lived his first 8 years of life and the church where he was baptized. I didn't get a chance to photograph the birthplace, but the church I have one shot of a door. We were too close for a full view and we were at the side, not the front, I believe.

By this time, we had a game plan. We asked the guide if there is a market here because that's the one spot that we didn't see the first time. On the way to the market, we passed by the cathedral on the back side. Nowadays they have the entrance at the back of the church. I would have wanted to go inside, however, we didn't. My husband was insistent on going to the market. And so we just passed by the church and kept on walking.

On the way we entered a taberna where barrels of wine are displayed in the dining room These barrels are signed or authographed by famous people. We could only recognize one name: Antonio Banderas.

A few more turns and we reached the market. It's not a big market but large enough and many of them are on the verge of closing for siesta. A nice little market with a few stalls catering to mouth-watering seafood dishes.

There is seating outside the market, so we decided time for a little bite after all the walking we did.

We had boquerones, everyone's favorite.

The Squid was equally yummy.

We watched a fish monger prepare the boquerones with his bare hands only.

After the meal, we separated with my friends. They wanted to go to the church and do some shopping, while the hubs and I and their teenage daughter decided to stay in the market and see if we could try more food.

  3. It's so good to see photos of your travel. Ah, I love squid or sometimes the octopus and just love how they prepare it there. I am starting to feel cabin fever here. I miss traveling a lot - even those simple short weekend trips.

    Stay well.
