Dreaming on the dock of the bay

In early November, on one of our weekend drives to get take-outs (to support the restaurant biz) we literally stumbled upon this little gem of a houseboat community in Sausalito. Before this day, I can't tell for sure if I knew about the houseboat community or not, although for sure I knew there were a handful of boat houses, but I was never interested in them before.

Sausalito is a city in Marin County 4 miles north of San Francisco. It is very popular with both international and domestic tourists and even locals enjoy the waterfront views. It is one of our go-to spots to spend a few hours away from home before and during the pandemic.

Checking Mr. Internet for information about the houseboats, I find this article very informative. I understand there is a tour of the houseboats available. Something worth looking into once the world is open again. In the meantime, allow me to show you some of the photos I took while driving by.''

One day, I'll make sure I explore this on foot. I'll see about the tour as well.

  1. What an interesting way to live. The first one looks very seasonal with all its red and white.

  2. ...I have seen a few houseboat communities, but the winters are a bit too cold here. Solid land seems better for me.

  3. A very different way to live. There must be a few challenges.
It would be fun to step out the door and zip off in your boat.

  4. I love these so much! There’s a similar community near Portland that we’ve drive-by admired for years on our visits to “the big city”.

  5. There are also many houseboats here in my city and it is no longer the way it used to be, because people build whole houses on them, and the ones you post looked like it too, but photo 1 caught my attention. I thought it looked really cozy and romantic. Thank you also for visiting my websites and comments. Who do you know out city Gorinchem? NL. You wrote that in a response to my website.
