NV/AZ/UT Road Trip: Leaving For Las Vegas
On this penultimate day in this road trip, we only had the Lower Antelope Canyon in our itinerary. And then, it's a long drive to Las Vegas from Page, AZ.
After the 1-hour tour of Lower Antelope Canyon, we found that there's plenty of time left before we check out of the hotel. We were told that we could drive deeper into the valley at Antelope Point and Marina. Since we didn't have anything else planned, we drove out there. Unfortunately, all we saw was a gift shop and restaurant. We got some coffee and a refrigerator magnet. I could tell this early in the morning that it will be a hot day today because the sun was already bearing down on us.
Antelope Point was a bust, so we went back to the hotel for breakfast and checkout. Next we went to the grocery store for some supplies and saw that across the street is a trading post. With the hubby still looking for rare jerky meat to share with friends and co-workers back home, we entered the shop and browsed. Instantly we know this is not a place for jerky, but definitely the place for pricey authentic Indian jewelry. I saw this tee-shirt and was tempted to buy one. This road trip was taken in 2019 so the previous president was sitting in the Oval Office at that time.
Wahweep Point was the next destination before we leave for Vegas. Research says Wahweep Point in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is the best spot to see both Lake Powell and the land surrounding it. Apparently it was not a secret spot because we were definitely not alone there. Truly, a nice little photo detour before starting the long drive to Vegas.
The drive was again long and pretty scenic. Then I realized we were passing through Glen Canyona dn then Grand Staircase Escalante. Just beautiful geography. Quite different from the other spots we have seen already. The hubby saw a sign with dinosaur on it so we immediately made a U turn and visited the Visitor Center that has exhibit of dinosaur skulls. A great stop for education and the facilities and break from driving.
After what seemed like hours of driving we stopped in Kanab at Denny Wigwam's Trading Post. Kanab is a pretty little town and this store has an attached restaurant in the back. It was closed for private event.
Thus ends this week-long road trip that was full of nature's awesome sights. So grateful for the opportunity given us to be able to experience Southwestern geography. The date for this road trip was May 25- June 1, 2019.
This is a wonderful road trip with beautiful sceneries along the way. I enjoyed reading the post together with these amazing photographs.
