Cancun: From Sunrise to Sunset
With a 4-day 3-night stay, it's just way too short to attempt to do more than visit the Chichen Itza. At least that's my opinion, in addition to the fact that this was supposed to be a "chill" getaway - to get away from the confines of the house and enjoy a bit. Thus, aside from the drive to Chichen Itza, we pretty much stayed within the Hotel Zone vicinity. We walked the beach a bit, explored every nook within a few blocks from our resort, window-shopped and shopped quite a bit too. And of course we sampled some of the restaurants nearby.
The photographic diary of the trip:
I just have to wake up early once to catch the sunrise.
On our first night, we took our friends to Mextreme, a typical touristy Mexican restaurant. This would be my fourth trip to Cancun and the first time I tried this place, and only because of the company I was with. They're into this type of establishments, so we agreed to go. Thankfully, the experience wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Touristy, yes; but the food is good and the atmosphere is totally festive - something that I didn't realize I was looking for that night. There was a sign that says this was the location for the old Tom Cruise movie, Cocktails - have not seen the movie.
This is how your margarita orders are delivered to your table. You have to shake your booty with the server before he hands you the elixir. So much fun. The food is yummy too.
Another night, we found ourselves a bit hungry after 9 pm. We had a good dinner around 4 pm so we thought we'd just grab some drinks and some bites, but we got something heavier than that at El Granero. Food was good too.
I find walking at night really pleasurable here, not only because the weather is better, but also there's more things to see in terms of what other people are doing, you know.
Of course this beautiful sunset.
On the last day, our friends had an early flight out while ours was later afternoon. We all checked out early and we drove them to the airport while we drove around town and did a little bit of window shopping.
The lagoon.
It was a great start to traveling again. Have you traveled by plane since the world reopened?
...beautiful from beginning to end!

Greetings and Salutations! My favorite photograph was the one with the motorcycle. Looks like you and your friends enjoyed your day from sun up till sunset. Nice photos.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had an amazing time in Cancun--I enjoyed seeing all your photos! I've only visited sots on western Mexico and would like to go to visit Cancun one day.
ReplyDeletePS: You asked if I ever visited Banff and Jasper, Canada. No, but I really hope to see both someday. Covid-19 has really slowed down our travels as we are older and worry about getting ill far from home. We have been staying more local. I have visited many areas in Eastern Canada through the years when we lived in NYC--Ontario, Montreal, Cape Breton, Newfoundland, Halifax, Canadian Niagara Falls. All beautiful areas! I did see a bit of the Yukon and British Columbia when we did a cruise to Alaska, and Waterson Canyon in Alberta --the Canadian side of Glacier National Park that is in Montana
