Becoming a Tradition?
By a happy stroke of coincidence it seems like I'm starting a tradition for my birthday celebration - that is, museum + eats. Last year, allow me to recall that I also did a museum/art showcase (albeit in a different medium) and dinner, check here. Earlier this month, I spent the day with a visit to Asian Art Museum mostly to see the exhibit dedicated to the works of Filipino-American artist Carlos Villa (Worlds in Collision). Nice to learn that the exhibit comes with general admission and does not require a special exhibit ticket.
No food or drink allowed inside, so we had to consume our Philz Turkish coffee outside. Side note, this is one of the best coffees I had in a very long time. I cannot remember the last time I was wowed by a cup of coffee.
The museum is located across the San Francisco City Hall.
Carlos Villa: Worlds in Collison.
The Filipino traysikel (tricycle)
His penchant for using a feathers in his art is quite interesting. I can appreciate his works, but it appeared to be not my cup of tea. As a matter of fact, I still don't know what kind of art I'm attracted to at this time, although I must say I'm quite taken by Piccasso and Dali. I do know very little of art, but I'm starting to veer towards museum visits in the past years.
In the next post, I will be sharing photos from the permanent exhibit. I restrained myself from photographing everything, I truly did, and yet I still ended up with so much so bear with me while I get this post out of the way before starting my Canada trip series.

ReplyDeleteThat is quite an exhibit. Such major ink!! I'm really interested in your coffee, been a long time since I have been wowed myself by coffee.
ReplyDeleteNice idea for a birthday gift to yourself seeing a different museum. Yeah, go for it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice tradition! The tattoo art is amazing. I love browsing around local museums, especially when they have an artist or exhibit that is new or borrowed so that I have not seen it before.
