Snow Day
A week after the visit to Mt. Diablo (see previous post) for a little sampling of snow day, we wanted a full experience and so we braved the inclement weather for a little weekend road trip. The planned destination was Colfax, a 2 hr-drive from San Francisco along Interstate 80, a nice pit stop on the way to Reno, NV. I remember this town, because a long time we had to stop here to put on chains before driving up to the mountains.
Anyway, we passed by Auburn first and we can't just proceed to the destination without stopping here first. Also, we needed to fuel up. But since we were here, we went looking for coffee and we found a gem of a bakery.
I seem to always photograph the Gold Miner every time I pass here. Makes me wonder how many of this I have in my albums.
Driving past the Old Town area, we found this gem of a bakery. They have sandwiches and quiches and cakes and breads. There seems to be an endless stream of people coming in and lining up for these treats. We got coffee, the best vegan brownie I've ever had, cookies and quiche, then went our merry way.
The quiche came with a side salad. We devoured this in the car after our "adventure".
We kept driving in side streets and found a small town we didn't know existed called Gold Run, about 10 miles away. We found a church that's looks deserted, probably because it was Saturday. I don't know. It had a signage that says it is a historical landmark. This was a nice place to stretch our legs and walk around a bit. A few cars passed by, but we didn't see any one out and about.
Begging your indulgence on these posts about snow. I think my fascination with snow stems from the fact that I came from a tropical country and now live in a place where we don't get them. So the novelty is still there and it still thrills me/us. However, I have not tested my endurance with snow in a prolonged period of time. So far, I know I can stand it for a day or so. But I'm in no hurry to move to a place that gets it regularly.
And Happy Easter to all!!!!!!!
Lovely photos. Still a lot of snow! Thank you! Cathy
ReplyDeleteI love the statue of the man panning for gold!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos!
Thank you for joining us this week at http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2023/04/beautiful-quilts.html
I grew up in ice and snow and don't miss it a bit!
ReplyDeleteGreat collection of photos you give us. I have several scenes that I have photographed over and over and I don't know why I do it either.
California is such a land of contrasts. I was building a pipeline in the Tehachipi mountains where it was frigid, cold, and lots of snow on the ground. I could look down and see Bakersfield and it was 90F that day. Fascinating.
Great pictures. I grew up in snow country, but don't miss it a bit. Now living in the deep south.
ReplyDeleteI feel cold just looking at these shots.
ReplyDeleteIn Lahti, Finland snow is melting before your eyes. Not much of it left any more. Thank you Mother Nature.
ReplyDeleteLove this post. I missed snow this year. Usually we have a few good snowstorms, but this year, very little. I don't think I would want to live in a place with lots of snow though.
ReplyDelete...I find snow beautiful, we had very little this year, the old vehicles buried in the snow at wonderful. Thanks for taking me along on your journey.
ReplyDeleteI've been to Auburn before. A very nice town. You really found some interesting things on your road trip!
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely charming church for any weather! Great shots!
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting adventure at that Church and visiting a place you have never been before. Snow is charming but after a while it begins to be a problem to clear it off the sidewalks, driveways and streets.
ReplyDeleteLove this post, great pics! Where I live, we don't experience any snow or even winter season.
