A Botanic Garden Duet
SAN FRANCISCO BOTANICAL GARDEN
We recently visited two botanic gardens nearby. A curious occurence since a botanic garden is normally in the bottom of our list of places to go.
However, this April, for the Earth Day celebration we decided to revisit the San Francisco Botanical Garden. I remember that it was a hot day and people were trooping to the beach. Since we wanted to avoid the traffic jam on the way to the beach/es, we chose to go to the city to cool off and see some beautiful flowers.
Earth Day related program going on.
SONOMA BOTANICAL GARDEN
In May for our anniversary, we penciled in a full day in Sonoma with wine tasting and dinner. We have a lot of time between the wine tasting and dinner and we asked Mr. Google what else to do or see nearby that we haven't done or saw before. And what a surprise to find that they have a Botanical Garden here.
I didn't get to photograph the signage, but was pleasantly surprised when they had an exhibit going on called THE RIBBIT EXHIBIT. I haven't heard of this before, so I was really excited; I'm specially fond of whimsical art.
Could not resist getting my photo taken with the American Frog Gothic.
It's dogwood season.
We stopped for the snake crossing the path.
Just in time, someone who works there was passing by in a golf cart and stopped and showed us and another couple the snake up close.
It was a hot day and we didn't get to see everything. But at least now we know there's a botanic garden in Sonoma. We might revisit this again when it's not too hot.
The orange flower toward the top is outstanding, and I love the frog statues! Lovely garden.

Beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteDuring my travels, I prefer to go to a botanic garden instead of amusement parks. To be surrounded by lush greenery, out in nature and forested environs is refreshing break from the urban concrete jungle. But yes it tends to be quite hot to be exposed out in the open like that. Besides I am too old na for amusement parks. LOL
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful choice of location for Earth Day. Love the photo of you by the frogs!!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy botanical gardens, and both of these are nice. I think it's a great way to celebrate Earth Day.

This is so not my part of New York State in April - I would have loved to have seen both these botanical gardens. I very much enjoyed the ribbit art, too, especially the artist''s take on American Gothic.
ReplyDeleteI miss living near botanical gardens. My favorite is the one in Tilden.

ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful blog post! Your experiences at the San Francisco Botanical Garden and the Sonoma Botanical Garden sound absolutely enchanting. It's wonderful to hear how both visits turned out to be such pleasant surprises, especially given your initial hesitation about botanical gardens. The Earth Day celebration in San Francisco must have been a great way to enjoy the beautiful flowers while escaping the beach crowds. And how fun to stumble upon the Ribbit Exhibit in Sonoma! Your photo with the American Frog Gothic is charming, and it’s fantastic that you got a close-up look at the snake crossing the path. Even though the weather was hot, it’s great that you discovered a new gem in Sonoma. Thanks for sharing these lovely experiences!
