Turkiye 2023: On The Way to Gallipoli

On this day, we were leaving the dynamic Istanbul to continue this tour. At breakfast, we saw an onlooker out the window of the dining area.

Someone opened the glass panel to share some breakfast goodie with this one.

Gallipoli is the destination for today. It is about 283 km (175.8 m) away and roughly a 3.5 hour drive. I took some shots as we were leaving the city. Showing them to you because I for one looks for shots like this when I read blogs.

Around 2 hours into the drive, we pulled up at a gas station with attached mini-mart and cafe. Souvenirs and local snacks were also sold. Most of us had either coffee or tea.

We arrived in Gallipoli just in time for lunch. Since it is by the Dardanelles, we stopped at what I'm guessing is another of those "accredited" restaurants. This one is a combination fish market and restaurant. You can get fresh fish and they'll cook it for you, or just order from the regular menu.

The 1915 Canakkale Bridge began construction in 2017 and completed in 2022. This bridge is the longest suspension bridge in the world with a main span of 2,023 m.

After the hurriedly eaten lunch, we set out to explore the area.

Before 2022, tour groups would take the ferry across the Dardanelles. We took the bridge.

Gelibolu is the Turkish name for Gallipoli.
