Turkiye 2023: Surprising Antalya, part 2
After the pool time, we decided to do something else. And since the Guru Walk in Old Town Antalya wasn't until another hour or so, we went to do a little visit to Antalya Museum. You'd think that we'd be running away from museums by now having visiting a few of them already. When traveling with people, you do what the majority wants. I initially wasn't into another museum visit, but in hindsight it was such a blessing that they all wanted to go.
I have to say that the Antalya Museum is one of my favorites. Its exhibits are varied and I found them very interesting. They have indoor and outdoor exhibits. I stayed in the sarcophagi area for a long time. I enjoyed the art and the designs of the sarcophagi. I had a good time in this museum. I could have stayed longer.
We paid 350 Turkish lira.
Burial urn
Now for the sarcophagus/sarcophagi with elaborate decorations.
Outdoor exhibit
In the outdoor exhibits there are wildlife - cats, peacocks, fowls, a different type of chicken.
As the time for our walking tour was nearing, we called for taxi to take us to the meeting place, somewhere in Old Town. We really wanted to take the tram which runs this route, but we didn't have enough cash and the ATM machine that was located just outside of the museum on the street side, which I thought was such a random and weird location, did not allow any of us to get some cash. Now that I think of it, perhaps this was not a random location for the ATM machine. Perhaps many visitors to the museum often need the cash for the tickets.
Anyway, we were - surprise, surprise! - dumped by the taxi driver some 4-5 blocks to our destination, claiming the traffic jam would keep us from making it to our walking tour. He further claimed that walking there would be faster, after all it's a few shakes away.
I can't believe we were victimized here in Antalya. It seems this practice of dumping the customers is nationwide. Anyway, what else can we do? We walked and in hindsight again glad that it happened this way because we saw things and places we would not otherwise see.
Like this lovely area.
We took time looking at the store windows.
We even found the "umbrella street".
And finally we found our destination. Just beyond those arched gates is our meeting spot.

That was a good museum! And neat that you could take pictures; thanks for sharing them.
