Yosemite in January
A little diversion from Turkey documentation. Today, I'd like to share photos from a trip we took to Yosemite NP over the Martin Luther King holiday in January.
There were three couples that went. We stayed three nights in a very nice rental just outside of the park. Most of our meals were made from scratch and we brought all the incredients from home, knowing how far/remote our cabin/house was for the weekend.
No snow fell while we were there, but it was quite chilly, especially on the second day. Many of the places, especially along the higher elevations were still closed to the public. So we mainly stay around the Yosemite Valley area.
The 3-br lodging.
Arch Rock is formed by two boulders that create an archway and is a natural entrance to Yosemite. This was the closest entrance from our lodging.
Tunnel view, one of the most familiar image you see of Yosemite online. It features El Capitan on the left, Half Dome and Bridal Veil Falls on the right.
Bridal Veil
Always wanted to stop at this church (Yosemite Community Church) and see the interior, which I finally did on this visit.
We took to walking all over the park.
Our feet took us to the swinging bridge. This is a great spot for picknicking and swimming. I've been here in the summer when the river was very full. The bridge is fixed now, it used to swing way back when.
Summer is definitely the time to visit when you want a real show from the waterfalls.
Found out there is an Ahwahnee Hotel tour for free. With us was a large scouting group.
Went to hike Vernal Falls.
On one of the paths we saw a guy training to climb while his dog stands guard.
Mirror Lake area
On the day we were leaving, we saw a dusting of snow on the river rocks.
Snow on the ground at the parking lot of the Tunnel Tree trailhead.
I thought we were just going home, so I was not wearing the right hiking shoes and I was very careful not to slip.
The Tunnel Tree in Mariposa Grove. The very first time I see this in the many years I've come here to visit.
It was a very satisfying trip with friends.

ReplyDeleteGreat photos! Winter is actually a perfect time to visit Yosemite. For one, you can actually get in! The nights are sure cold, but if the weather is clear, like you saw, it's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it beautiful! And the bonus of a winter visit was definitely the lack of those summer crowds! Very nice.
